Untold challenges, right?

Captain Stacy never said he should not be with Gwen. He said leave Gwen out of this. Captain Stacy died a hero, and just like Gwen said at Peter's porch after her father's funeral, she grew up knowing that one day he couldn't go back home. By SotoJuiceMan's logic, Captain Stacy shouldn't have a wife and kids either, because this is a dangerous world and been a hero can ending up putting your loved ones in harm' sway from time to time.

SotoJuiceMan, you are a Batman and DC fanboy. Most of DC characters are infallible and flawless, especially Batman. If instead of Spider-Man, it was Batman the guy who asked to leave her daughter out of this, maybe it'd go the way you think it should go, but the point of Spider-Man is that he is just like us. He is flawed. More than that, he is human. You don't see great cops that live a celibatical life, do you? Going further, would Gwen live more or less without Peter around? The beauty of Spider-Man is that he is just like us. If anything, Nolan's Batman was out of character because Batman would never consider quitting for no one, neither Rachel or Selina. Batman is a force of nature. Spider-Man is the hero inside all of us. And that's okay, even if that hero some time fails or doesn't make what it seems as the best decision, even if just at a superficial level.

TASM wasn't bad it was just absolutely average.

From a story standpoint they harped on about the search for his father then they just abandoned that aspect, even on the commentary Webb talks about Peter trying to find his father which is why he had the young verion look for his father at the start of the movie. Yet halfway through the movie it simply becomes Peter Parker and the Stacy family.

The Spider-sense was so broken it was unbelievable: Drop of dew from bottle - tingle, spider in bedroom - tingle, lizard miles away on the bridge - tingle, sports equipment headed at him - tingle, lizard right above spidey - nothing, helicopter coming round the corner - nothing.

Marvel characters are great because generally they come from an unlucky/lucky stroke of chance. TASM was just too coincidental and did nothing to delve deeper into Peter Parker/ Spider-man. As stated above Richard Parker leads to Connors who leads to Oscorp which employs Gwen who just happens to tutor FLash Thompson who is Peter's bully. The Uncle Ben's killer thing is part of Spidey mythos but add that to all the previous crap and its just too much coincidence. The day Peter goes to Oscorp, Ratha is carrying a zero decay rate file which leads Peter to the Spiders - c'mon.

Characters also tended to be dumb in this flick. Just look how surprised the interns are when Peter mentions cross genetics, nice job research. Then you have the photographer who can't even take a photo evidence with his phone. The high school students who witness amazing feats of strength but take it as another day at school. Also loved the way that Flash just becomes a good guy and its considered development and Dr. Connors saving Peter with his 'good' hand. Lol

Peter was also way too unpleasant for my liking, Uncle Ben died because of him you'd think he'd show some compassion for the woman who Ben loved. After all, his poor treatment of her was what lead to the whole tragedy but no "Go to sleep".

Thats why I found it average plus the fact that they just took scenes from other CBMs and put them in a spidey movie (Daredevils handstand on the ledge, Wolverine destroying the bathroom etc). When the movie ended I did not feel like that was a hero swinging off into the distance like i did with Batman Begins, Iron Man, Thor or Cap.

@Soto TASM isn't smart, it isn't philosophical, what CBM is other than the Nolan Batfilms? TASM is a good flick, above average. TASM centers it self around the irresponsibility of Peter Parker, it shows him make mistakes and pay the price for it. It's obvious, if you watch the movie it is I'm your face it's right there it is so obvious. Peter doesn't just automatically become Spiderman when Uncle Ben dies, he goes on a vendetta. That's what he uses his powers for. After he saves the kid from the bridge he feels he has a moral obligation too protect the people from the Lizard and stop Dr. Connors. That's the movie, you're just pointing out useless stuff like him not having an accent when he goes to Oscorp as That Spanish dude. I'm pretty sure not all ppl who have Spanish names have accents

Although Lizard was a terrible villain
