Andrew Garfield On Emma Stone, C. Thomas Howell's Role Revealed!

The Spider-Man star briefly discusses what its been like to work with Emma Stone and EW reveal the name of the character Howell will be playing who is only actually a recent addition to the comic books...

In an interview with Extra, the 27-year-old actor said that having Emma Stone on the set helps to make the process of filming director Marc Webb's superhero reboot much more enjoyable and affirmed that he's already developed a solid relationship with the actress who will play Gwen Stacy.

"I really do like Emma - she's a pretty special actress and a pretty special person.

"One of the funnier people and one of the more fun loving people I know. I'm so glad that she's there on set. It's really fun."

In slightly more interesting news though, EW have revealed that C. Thomas Howell will play a different, and much more recent, character than many expected in the upcoming reboot. (fan speculation was rife that he had been cast as either Norman Osborn or J. Jonah Jameson) Here's what they had to say in their report:

Howell’s reps indicated that he will be playing a character named "Ray," but have no other details. (The name does not immediately ring any bells in Spider-Man lore, other than possibly Ray Cooper, the supposedly deceased father of Spidey’s current comic book girlfriend Carlie.)

Considering that we know Captain Stacy will be in the movie, and it was recently revealed in the comics that he and Ray Cooper worked together, it seems likely that this I'd the character Howell is playing. Add in the fact that another story revealed that Gwen and Carlie played together as children, and we might just see her as a part of the supporting cast of the reboot!

The movie stars Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Rhys Ifans, Martin Sheen, Denis Leary, Campbell Scott, Julianne Nicholson, Irrfan Khan, Annie Parisse and Chris Zylka with a release set for July 3, 2012 in 3D.

Sounds like Andrew and Emma are going to have some pretty good chemistry on screen. As much as I love the Raimi Spider-Man movies, I'm actually looking forward to this fresh take. Maybe we'll get a movie with better comics continuity.

Surprised they're gonna go with a character from the modern comics but he sounds like a good fit for the reboot. Interesting to see how he and his daughter are in the reboot if she is also going to appear. Nice find! :)

As far I'm concerned, the fact that they're using Qwen as the original love interest (which is true to the comics) has already given me confidence in this film.

It would be a plus for this film if Garfield and Stone have good on-screen chemistry. I still think they both look too old to play teenagers, but we shall see. I am glad that they're using Gwen as the love interest, as she was in the comics. Let's see her last at least into the second film before she crosses paths with the Green Goblin and any bridges.

Makes sense for C. Thomas Howell. Not really much of a sell for a major role.

Bryan Cranston, Ralph Fiennes and Jason Isaacs would be great as Norman Osborn too! Maybe Paul Bettany too?

sinise is perfect for norman osborn good call Born Tron. If it is Ray Cooper then it's not a straight up adaption of ultimate spidey like some people on here were claiming it to be. and I am pretty sure were not going to see the osborns yet well not fully anyway, Oscorp might be in the movie, it's best to save the osborns for a sequel.
