At the Maui Film Festival, Marc Malkin from E! Online had the opportunity to chat with the leading star of Sony and Marc Webb's The Amazing Spider-Man revision, Andrew Garfield. Dishing on the seven-month filming experience, his reaction to the film's first image, which depicted of the actor suited up, among other things discussed, watch the interview below.

"It was so long, man," Garfield exclusively told me this weekend at the Maui Film Festival, where he was honored with the Shining Star Award. "It's crazy. I feel like I lost a sense of myself for awhile...It was very hard work. I worked my butt off."

"I saw it before that image was going to be released," Garfield said. "[Director Marc Webb] slipped me a little copy of it. I had to catch my breath a little. It was very very exciting. It was surreal."

The Amazing Spider-Man focuses more on Peter Parker’s high school days and the development of his powers while navigating the troubles of a brainy geek in high school. And starring Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Denis Leary, Rhys Ifans, Martin Sheen, and Sally Field, the films swings into theaters July 3, 2012 in 3D!

I [frick]ing hate this guy. He looks more like someone in a Twilight movie than Peter Parker.

It would have been a better if the interviewer wasn't laughing idiotically at every other thing he said.

I was a much bigger fan of Spider-man when I was younger than I am now, but I'm looking forward to seeing this one when it comes out.

Wassup with the interviewer? HELLO FRISCO! Man, he's practically salivating over little ol' Andy Garfield! He really looks like a perv. He's definitely picturing Andrew naked. I still don't know about Andrew as Spiderman, but I know there's been enough Spiderman film history for the studio to be properly educated on "how not to screw up", so let's hope they get it right.

I'm placing my bets that this film will be the best Marvel film in 2012.

Red Epic Camera's on 3ality rigs is something I'm interested in seeing.

Have to admit, Andrew is a great actor for the role.

Bring on the trailer!

I really wish people would get over the Twilight comparions. Andrew Garfield is a great actor. Robert Patterson is worth as much to the film community as grif's insight is to this website.

ShadesAtKnight is right, although we all love Grif's loyal and undying disdain for 99% of this site's content.

But yeah, because the guy has a hairstyle that's somewhat reminiscent of the hairstyle Robert Patinson has in Twishite, then obviously this film is going to be a terrible film aimed only at a clueless teen audience. Granted, the majority of the audience will be teens, but that's also because, as a lot of people forget, Spider-Man was the first teen superhero who wasn't the sidekick of another established hero. The comics dealt with his teenaged life, his struggles with being a nerd/dork/geek/outcast, the death of his beloved uncle, the fact that he was bullied and couldn't fight back because he had a responsibility to NYC to keep his identity a secret so he could fight crime as Spider-Man.

Andrew Garfield is a tremendous actor, you can't compare him to anyone from a twilight movie, because he's so much better than them. I have a feeling this film will be great. Yes, the suit could be (a lot) better, but I'm willing to suffer a bad suit as long as we have a good movie, instead of a faithful suit and a bad movie (Spider-Man 3).

I'll always have fond memories of the first 2 Spider-Man films, but it was time for change. Spider-Man 3 sucked, and Raimi's plans for Spider-Man 4 would've been a slap in the face and kick in the nuts to all the fans (Vulturess).

The pros of this movie outweigh the cons. We have a brilliant cast, a great up and coming director, what sounds like a great story, we got the lizard and hopefully we'll have a more faithful adaptation, with jokes thrown out left right and centre by our favourite web headed hero. The only cons, really, are the pretty weak suit, and the fact that we have no more JK Simmonds as J.Jonah Jameson.

I'm not saying the film will definitely be amazing, but so far, for the most part, it looks great, and I wish people would stop being so narrow minded and just reserve judgement til the film is released. I mean, just think about how most people hated X-Men First Class before release, but changed their minds once they saw it. Films can surprise you guys, keep an open mind.

LOL that people are judging Andrew's acting ability by his hair. Andrew's an excellent actor, he'll be an excellent spider man.

And really, ANYONE is better than Tobey Maguire.

When he's asked if he's always been a Spider-man fan, he stumbles through what he read in "Interview Answers For Dummies". Of course I'm a fan, it's close to my heart, a story of boys and girls and oh yeah... with great power comes great responsibility. LOL So phony. But being passionate and knowledgeable about Spider-man is not a necessary requirement for the actor to portray him well.

So, after seeing this, I'm going to give Garfield a chance. Redbox rentals are only a dollar. Truly, Amazing.

the amazing spider-man - batman's real threat at the box office next year.

all three previous spidey films have out grossed every batman film apart from the dark knight.

let battle commence.

Now I completely agree, after Spider-Man 3, we needed a brand new cast and director (even when a third movie is good, there should still be an injection of new blood into a franchise after a trilogy) BUT couldnt they have found a way to do a loose continue on from Three as opposed to rebooting yet another [frick]ing franchise

I do like the look of Andrew as Spidey though

Sorry Peter Parker never looked twilighty. He was a geek at first then lost the glasses after he got his powers. Only way Parker would look like he had a bunch of moose in his hair is if he had some web fluid misfunction

marvel72 If Batman has any threat next year, I think it will be the Avengers. The last 3 Spider-man films did crazy numbers with a different cast- a cast that the general public is familiar with. A reboot won't be an easy sell unless they are doing something spectacular and new... like, 3D?

I think the Avengers has maximum crowd pull potential with all those heroes in one movie. It's out of this world and appeals to geek and casual-viewer alike. We follow this stuff daily, but an average buff is going to shit bricks at the site of THOR, IRONMAN and HULK in the same trailer.

Wait, is that the pitter patter of Hobbit feet? CBM boxoffice, we have a problem.

@ neobaggins

the hobbit will be the biggest film of next year.

comic wise the avengers may topple batman, but one on one i think spidey could do it,spidey's in 3-d as well.
