B.J. Novak On His Brief Role In THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2

With as many good reviews for Marc Webb's The Amazing Spider-Man 2, there is also a fair amount of bad reviews. Some people believe they did a good job at balancing all the characters, and others think it didn't work very well. Regardless, one of the characters that didn't get very much screen time was B.J. Novak's Alistair Smythe. But whether or not he was in the movie very much, Novak still says that "You could not have the movie without my role." He does have a point in that his character is a big part of why Jamie Foxx's Max Dillon transformers into the villainous Electro. He goes on to discuss his experience with the film and further elaborates on his small but important role. "It was kind of overwhelming," he says on what it feels like to be a part of a major franchise such as Spider-Man. "I showed up on set and there is so much secrecy that I didn't even get the full script. I had to sort of do my own thing about my character. I was able to talk to [Marc Webb] about what I thought I was piecing together but it was cool to be part of something so global and alive in the imaginations of so many people." Playing a character such as Smythe was also pretty similar to Novak, since he can be compared to his character on the Office 'Ryan.' "I did find some overlap, unfortunately, that I could draw on. [Ryan] was also sort of drunk on power at a very young age, and I think that's the story of this character I play here." Are you happy with the size of the role Alistair Smythe had in the Amazing Spider-Man 2, or do you think he should have been cut?
