Marc Webb Says That Exciting Spider-Man Information Is "Forthcoming"!

Hit the jump to check out what the (500) Days of Summer director had to say when he was asked about how work is progressing on the upcoming Spider-Man reboot...

In a recent interview with IGN TV promoting the pilot Lone Star (the story of Bob Allen, a con man who creates two lives with two women in different cities in order to swindle money from those around them) which he directed, Marc Webb was asked about how things are progressing on the 2012 reboot of Spider-Man which will star Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker.

While he couldnt reveal anything, he did promise them that we don't have too long to wait until we start getting some information on the movie which will be filmed in 3D. Here's both the question and answer from that very interview:

Of course I have to also ask how things are going with Spider-Man...

"Right, this is the s**ty answer, but I can't actually talk about it. But there will be more information forthcoming on that. But I'm so stoked. Really, really exciting stuff!"

Are you guys looking forward to this movie? Do you wish we could get some more information in order to decide whether or not it'll be any good? And what could the "exciting" information possibly be? Share your thoughts about all this in the usual place!

I hope its the villain or Gwen confirmation.
Still I´m most excited for the 3D! Spider-Man in 3D will be sweet! Mysterio would be great as the villain on this 3D movie! Lucky it will be filmed on 3D and not converted :)

I completely agree deadpool72! :) I'm feeling pretty good about this movie right now but that's only because Garfield sounds like he'll make an awesome Spider-Man...that doesnt mean Webb wont still [frick] it up though so more info will be a great help in deciding that! Just look at X-Men: First Class - I thought that sounded decent until Singer revealed all that info last month. Now I have NO doubt that it'll be just one big insult to the comic books!

Webb has talent and is a promising young director. He's not that experienced, but he has plenty of potential. Joseph Kosinski never even directed a single movie, let alone a good one like (500) Days of Summer, before helming Tron Legacy and I don't see anyone complaining about him. I'm looking forward to more info from Webb/Garfield/whoever.

On a side-note, he directed the pilot for Fox's new show Lone Star, and the pilot has gotten good early reviews so far.

I really hope we get a confirmation on the villain here soon. As awesome of a villain he would make for the first movie, I kind of hope they save the Lizard for the sequel.

Electro for the main villain, Kingpin and Chameleon for the side villains.
They could build up the Kingpin storyline and eventually have a Kingpin sponsored Scorpion, which would be amazing!

It'll almost certainly be filmed in 3D, as it's been known for a while that they've been talking to Cameron and James Landau about how best to bring Spiderman to life in 3D (which is great news for anyone who saw some of the action in Avatar and imagined what Cameron's Spiderman might've been).

They said quite some time ago they aren't going to focus as much on villains in this one, so that already has my interest deflated some. Not liking the casting decision for a high school reboot. So...to answer your question....no.

FYC11@ They have said high school since way back when. There was speculation by fans out there after casting an "older" Parker that they would go the college route, but every indication from the studio is that it is still the high school route.
jbak368
jbak368 - 9/18/2010, 7:17 PM
Deciding to focus more on the hero and less on the villains is what made Batman Begins better than the 4 films it was rebooting.
StuckInPanels
StuckInPanels - 9/18/2010, 7:23 PM
I think they will go with the college age route because despite his look and age...I don't he could pull off High Schooler...this isn't 90210 where the actors were obviously older than High Schoolers.

@Deadpool and Josh....I have great faith in this director. He seems very committed in crafting the simplistic genre film and adding a new spin. 500 days of summer did that, which could have been a so-so but he made it a unique style and made it much more than it could have been under a worse off director. So he has vision and I'm sure he will get down the emotional aspect of Peter

I agree with @jbak368. This is a Spider-Man movie, not a villains-only movie. So the focus on the hero is important.

I agree with jbak on that. Focusing on Peter as a character more than the villains could be a great move. It could really explore his motivations, personality, etc. the way Begins did for Bruce. Of course, that does depend on how it is done, but, as I said before, Webb is promising and talented. Garfield is an IMMENSE talent and looks just like Peter to boot. He may be 27, but, TO ME (not saying everyone sees it this way), he looks much younger and I wouldn't have a problem buying him as a high school senior. Garfield as Peter may just be one of the greatest casting decisions for a superhero EVER, including RDJ, Keaton, etc

I fear for the Twilight appeal too. As much as I want to see Spider-Man web slinging his way through New York in 3D, I fear there will be to much teen angst, and not enough actual wise-cracking/butt kicking.
sweetre15
sweetre15 - 9/18/2010, 8:17 PM
Teen Drama is not the problem in Twilight. The problem with Twilight is that it's horribly written as well as horribly acted with Heart throbs in the cast.
Ranger14
Ranger14 - 9/18/2010, 8:18 PM
Jbak and others@ I think there was plenty of attention paid to the villain(s) in Batman Begins AND show that part of Wayne's background. I have had enough of Parker's origins to keep me satisfied enough. I want to see Spiderman mature and fight some good villains. Now we get to wait a few movies to see that happen again. If the studio sticks with the "not much time spent on villains", it isn't going to be for me. Y'all can start over again if you like.
InTylerWeTrust
InTylerWeTrust - 9/18/2010, 8:35 PM
Yes, Begins did pay attention to the villains, but the main, central focus was squarely on Bruce's character. Just because the main focus this time is going to be on Peter's character, doesn't mean we won't see enough of the villains. It's not like they said we won't see any villain fighting, they just said that we'll see more of Peter's personal struggles, and that's always been a part of what makes Peter an interesting character, his life outside the mask. Having the focus set on Peter also allows for better character development.
sweetre15
sweetre15 - 9/18/2010, 8:39 PM
@InTylerWeTrust: Exactly, plus I feel that Spider-Man calls for a more character driven movie when I read the comics or watch the cartoons anyway. It shouldn't need fight scenes every 10 frickin minutes anyway.
TheNameIsBetty
TheNameIsBetty - 9/18/2010, 8:50 PM
I agree @InTylerWeTrust

I just sincerely hope that even though this movie will be seeing Peter as a youngerish character, that the tone of the movie will not be
younger as well. No Disney Channel Bullcrap.

That's So Spidey!

Ranger14
Ranger14 - 9/18/2010, 8:55 PM
Like I said, that is fine for those who still need or want to see the character development of a character I have already seen developed well enough. I personally don't care about seeing it anymore. That's why the movie doesn't appeal to me. Get on with it already instead of dragging us through the whole origin again. Once there are a few movies with Garfield, he will be too old and we will get to reboot again. Oh joy.
FYC11
FYC11 - 9/18/2010, 9:09 PM
Toilet/Twilight is a badly written movie with crap everything, with the original source being sh:t to begin with.

@Fartman, I think that's the direction it would have gone if they had picked the youngest out of the shortlist. Thank god that bullet was dodged, aye?? (not saying they are bad actors)

I think with this movie it will be a balance, with a different and unexpected approach. Like Webb's 500 Days of Summer. He took a typical genre and took an interesting spin on it, real but not too much seriousnes All the time. He has to direct a kid with a dual Identity, Peter Parker is two people everyday. the previous franchise we got a sort of stereotypical nerd. When we all know that he uses his wisecracks during fights with his enemies. So I don't think it'll be one or the other, because IMO Andrew seems like he is capable of playing Peter Parker AND Spider-man.

Thank you, Ranger. You're one of the few users here who actually make well thought-out and actually agreeable comments about the reboot. I don't completely agree with you, obviously, but I do see where you're coming from and I understand your points. It's sort of a agree-to-disagree matter here, methinks. I think this reboot offers a chance for a fresh, different approach to Peter's character and I am looking forward to seeing the way he is portrayed/developed, but that's just my opinion.

This movie is going to seriously suck major a$$. Its totally friggin pointless. Why they couldn't have continued the series like the James Bond movies, I'll never know.

All it needed was a new actor to replace Tobey Maguire (just like James Bond) to play Peter Parker and all the other actors to reprise their old roles.

They will never find a better JJ than J K Simmons.

I've told Smithers to go and assassinate Marc Webb but to make it look like an accident. So if Marc Webb's body turns up in a dustbin in a couple of days, you'll know who to thank.
