MORBIUS Director Clears Up Multiverse Confusion And Claims There IS A Spider-Man In Sony's Marvel Universe

Morbius director Daniel Espinosa has confirmed which world the movie takes place in, while dropping some bold claims about Spider-Man's future in that reality. You can find more details here...

Does Sony Pictures know what it's doing with its Marvel Universe? That's still up for debate, especially after the reaction to Venom, Venom: Let There Be Carnage, and now Morbius

The plot looks set to thicken with the latter, of course, as Adrian Toomes/The Vulture is being added to the mix, presumably to set the stage for the Sinister Six. What the point of assembling that villainous team without Spider-Man is hard to say, but Morbius director Daniel Espinosa has dropped some surprising, potentially spoilery comments during a recent Twitter Q&A with fans.

As you can see, the filmmaker started by confirming that Michael Morbius lives in the same reality as Eddie Brock, which is no great surprise since we expected all these spinoffs to take place in the "Venomverse." Later, Espinosa would respond with "Of course" when he was asked if Spider-Man exists in that part of the Multiverse, suggesting we'll "discover the answer soon" about which Spidey that is.

We'd bet on it being Spider-Woman based on the projects we know are currently in development, though Sony could shoehorn in Andrew Garfield's Peter Parker based on the demands to #MakeTASM3 happen. That would be a shame in many respects, as the Oscar-nominee would likely find himself in the same territory he was back in 2014 with the critically panned The Amazing Spider-Man 2.

Morbius arrives in theaters on April 1. Check back here soon for our review.

It’s gonna be Andrew. Hopefully he can change the world around in an awesome way.

@GirshwinDavies - It's not like he made the two TASM movies any good.

@lordSTALE - That’s so stupid. But as far as word-play goes, touché.

If they wanna finish Andrew's story arc, without giving him another movie entirely... I could see him starring alongside Tom Hardy in Venom 3.

Let's say Brock moves to NYC, or Peter takes a trip to San Fran. It'd be dope imo.

Idgaf about whatever Morbius is trying to offer tho.

@KWilly -

I think this is the best option.

I can see Andrew Garfield being this universe’s Spider-Man but I agree that it would be unfair to add Garfield into a universe that isn’t doing well with critics especially after his well-received performance in No Way Home. I wouldn’t be surprised if these Sony movies introduce a brand new Spider-Man played by a new actor but it looks like they’re planning to embrace the multiverse in some way. This whole thing is a cluster[frick].

[frick] Sony forever for this cluster[frick] quagmire of a cinematic universe.

Shoveling out hunk of shit after hunk of shit and constantly trying to crowbar them into the MCU. Sony really are behaving like parasites. Glad Feige stiff-armed Venom right back out of the MCU before Sony had a chance to taint it with their dogshit ideas.

@PicolasCage - I've never seen a movie that was so good, and yet the stinger was causing it to lose rating points by the second. I actually cheered when Venom disappeared.

@PicolasCage - Who says he stiff armed and that this wasn't the plan before?

@MUTO123 - Good?

PicolasCage - 3/27/2022, 8:24 PM
@MUTO123 - same lmao. I actually read a leak about that stinger so I knew it was coming, but when it was so satisfying to see it play out to shut up all the annoying people who had insisted "Venom is MCU!!" since 2018

PicolasCage - 3/27/2022, 8:29 PM
@dagenspear - you really think they planned something as asinine as transporting Venom to the MCU and heavily hyping up his arrival to the MCU and then immediately having him teleported back out again before he could interact with a single person?

It is extremely apparent that Sony was trying to crowbar Venom into the MCU to piggyback off its success, and Feige didn't want the baggage from that tainted brand, so he found the most elegant way to run with what Sony did while still keeping Venom completely separate and self-contained.

Venom didn't even meet Spider-Man, in a [frick]ing Spider-Man movie. You think that was planned? LMAOOOOOOOOO

MUTO123 - 3/27/2022, 8:31 PM
@PicolasCage - Someone actually warned me about it beforehand without actually saying what it was. They said "You're gonna hate the stinger, just get up and leave", and I was gonna do that.... and then there was an active shooter emergency at the mall I saw it at, and I had to stay in the theater with everyone else and sit through that [frick]ing stinger.

@PicolasCage - I don't put it past either Sony or Marvel.

I think you say that like somehow Sony didn't know it would happen or something. I don't agree with that.

Already having this Q&A a week before release and embargo lifting a day before is an awful sign.

And the shit still makes absolutely no sense.

Garfiled was great in No Way Home. I just hope he gets some good writers behind him if he does reprise the role because ASM2 did him no favors.

MosquitoFarmer
MosquitoFarmer - 3/27/2022, 7:27 PM
@dagenspear - Neither, strictly speaking. Just a jest about how much info he’s spilling/spoiling, and in regards to how tight-lipped and careful Marvel Studios are about their projects.
