Marketing for the Sony's Spider-Man spin-off Morbius is in effect, and actor Jared Leto is using that to his advantage. The Academy Award winner starred in his first major comic book property in 2016, taking the coveted role of the Joker in Suicide Squad. This iteration of the Clown Prince of Crime proved controversial, attracting criticism for his edgy design, perceived overacting, and lack of purpose in the story, and Leto's then-upcoming Joker vs. Harley Quinn film was ultimately cancelled with Joaquin Pheonix taking on the mantle.
Even so, that hasn't put much of a dent in the actor's career, continuing to nab roles in independent films, Blade Runner 2049, and most recently in Morbius. The latter marks the actor's first comic book role since his Joker performance, and with anticipation for the film growing, the actor has an odd and unprecedented request.
Leto has released a video on his social media, giving out his phone number and asking fans to shoot him a text. This might sound difficult to believe, but it's no joke - He's actually joined the new Community social media app, which allows celebrities to connect with their fans in a more intimate matter than ever before.
"Hey everyone, it's your old friend Jared Leto. I've been thinking about things. I miss you. We've known each other for a long time and I should probably give you my phone number. It's been a while, I'd love to hear from you. Send me a message, tell me if you miss me. What's going on? I’ll hit you back. The number is 213.335.2223. We love you, take care. Goodbye."
