SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME Actor Talks About Returning As [SPOILER] For The First Time

We're still being careful about spoilers here just in case some of you haven't managed to see Spider-Man: No Way Home yet, but in a new interview, a certain actor has spoken about reprising a certain role.

We know this hardly qualifies as a spoiler at this stage, but just in case, major plot reveals for Spider-Man: No Way Home follow!

As most of you will be aware by now, Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield do indeed return as their respective takes on the wall-crawler in the threequel to lend Tom Holland's current MCU incarnation of the character a helping hand, and the latter has now spoken about his experience suiting-up as Spidey for the first time since The Amazing Spider-Man movies.

During an interview with Variety, the Tick, Tick Boom! star was asked about his decision to reprise the role, and said part of the appeal was being given the opportunity to serve as a mentor, of sorts, you his younger "brother."

"We were shooting for two weeks, Toby and I, but I think we managed to achieve something that is not just showing up and going, “Hi! Bye!," said Garfield. "My Spider-Man got to save his younger brother’s romantic relationship, potentially. And to heal the most traumatic moment of his own life through doing it for his younger brother. Making sure that he didn’t have the same fate, there’s something cosmically beautiful about that. It meant getting a second chance at saving Gwen."

Of course, Garfield is referring to the moment his Spider-Man is able to rescue Zendaya's MJ from the Green Goblin after Holland's is incapacitated. The actor was also asked about shooting scenes with his fellow Spider-Men, and reveals that he actually improvised the "I love you guys" line.

So, after such a positive experience on this movie, would Garfield consider staying on as Spider-Man for a future project?

"I mean, yes, definitely open to something if it felt right," he replied when asked about the prospect of returning. "Peter and Spider-Man, those characters are all about service, to the greater good and the many. He’s a working-class boy from Queens that knows struggle and loss and is deeply empathetic. I would try to borrow Peter Parker’s ethical framework in that, if there was an opportunity to step back in and tell more of that story, I would have to feel very sure and certain in myself."

There have been rumors that Sony Pictures might be developing another solo project for Garfield's webhead, but nothing solid just yet. If we were to see The Amazing Spider-Man again, where would you most like him to swing into action?

Garfield had the most emotional moments in the film for me, and I love how they played the "brothers" angle in the film. Really redeemed him from my least favorite to #1

Just kidding. It was worth it. Silly reporters constantly asking him questions they know he can't answer. Imagine if said "Yes, I'm in the film. Toby and I are both in the film." Sorry if that ruins everything for everyone.

LOOOOVEED him in the film, truly wished he was the lead, by far the better actor. And he never took off the suit that was great!

@Saga - Really shows how he’s the best actor of the trio when they’re all given the same quality of material lol

Gonna hate to say,Andrew's Peter in NWH is much Peter Parker for me,at least as an adult version of peter.his peter on point for me.his jokes, his banter, wise cracking was so peter parker/Spiderman for me.

I know when a comic book character is being adapted, we want it done the way we want it which is understandable. We tend to strongly dislike versions that go against our predetermined mindset. But when films like NWH has moments with these multiple Spider-Men, these departures or creative choices makes the dynamic shine more. If every version of Spider-Man was copy and past in terms of mythos, crossovers wouldn't be very interesting.

@Highflyer - Agree. I think animated movies are a lot cooler to see adaptations, but when it comes to movies, especially cinematic universes, getting to see these unique interpretations is so fun, and the pay off in this instance with them coming together is really special.

It’s also why I really don’t have a problem with the MCU doing departures from the source material, but the multiverse exists and seeing something different doesn’t erase the originals from existing

Peter 3 catching MJ is honestly my favorite moment from a film this year, and probably one of my favorite moments in the entire MCU. For as flawed as TASM films are, there was real raw chemistry and emotion between Gwen and Peter, and the direction and acting in her death is one of the most heartbreaking and memorable moments from any CBM. Seeing him get that redemption was something I never knew how much I wanted to see, and the way he got it, in THAT 3rd act, just wow.

Really do hope to see more of his Spider-Man, Andrew Garfield is honestly one of my favorite actors working right now (also Tick Tick...Boom is incredibly good) and it would be a waste to let his Peter go for a second time

There’s small moments I loved in Andrew’s performance like his head nod when Tom was talking about his loss. There was so much emotion in his performance. I really feel like he wanted that redemption they were offering him because it showed in how happy he was to be back. Just great to see

Loved Garfield's redemption and closure for his Spidey after his movies never did him justice. Put that shit on his shoulders and did the best he can, now got to play in the MCU sandbox with a great director and freedoms. He may not be my favorite Spidey/Peter, but his passion shines always in the role and he was awesome in this.

Have been waiting for his response to it all, and this interview is SO GOOD.

My personal top 5 of the biggest mistakes of No Way Home :

SPOILERS AHEAD !!!!

1) Electro didn't know the identity of Spider-man before being teleported into the MCU. He only learns it during the movie.

2) Norman Osborn being the Green Goblin is public knowledge. It definitely wasn't the case in the Spider-man trilogy with his own son not knowing the truth until he discovers his lair, meaning Octavius definitely couldn't have known it, let alone the rest of the world. That or Harry is just too poor to buy a TV or a newspaper.

3) The cops are after Spider-man in the latest part of the film after what happened in Happy's building. Peter literally reveals his location in the media to lure the villains to him, but there is virtually no cop around during the whole fight.

4) IF Ben Parker did indeed exist in the MCU, why is May buried alone rather than with her deceased husband ? Not really a mistake if Ben Parker actually never existed in this version though.

5) The whole point of the movie is Peter redeeming the villains to offer them the possibility of a better ending in their own world. Octavius is finally free of the A.I. control and has now a clean, compact and secure source of energy rather than his doomsday machine. Except the whole point is rendered moot by the precise moment he left his home world : he just learned Peter's identity, he is just seconds away from taking back control from the A.I. and his doomsday machine is already instoppable, meaning he will still have to sacrifice himself. Or, if his tentacules are still broken when he returned, either Peter manages to stop the machine by sacrificing himself (and letting MJ being killed by the wall) or their home world is doomed.

@Amuro - Is it bad that I noticed all of that and it didn’t affect my enjoyment of the movie at all? Maybe down the line I’ll cool off on it but it was just such pure entertainment that all those little things that would normally bug me I just didn’t care about. It earned so much good will that I don’t even care what makes sense because it’s just that damn good otherwise lol

@Amuro - I’m still on the mistake that Homecoming takes place 8 years after Avengers lmao!

Seriously though, all those points don’t entirely ruin my enjoyment of the film because they can be easily headcanon’d to work if you really need to.

If anything, in the opening scene Spider-Man’s suit missing the web shooter belt that he wore at the end of FFH pissed me off more

@Ha1frican -

Not at all. Honestly, it amuses me more than anything. This top is all in good fun.

I liked No Way Home far more than I liked Far From Home (which I hated). Still it's good to remember that the movie still has its flaws (many, many flaws) and make fun of them.

OT: I just finished my rewatch of Spider-Man: The Animated Series and started Spider-Man: Unlimited and it’s awesome. I watched both as a kid and it’s been a great nostalgia trip now 20+ years later to go back, and both series have absolute banger theme songs and soundtracks.

Great performance. He’s still my least favorite Spidey and he doesn’t feel like how I think Peter should be portrayed.

Love that one moment in the lab where Tobey and Tom just stare at Andrew flip lizards formula as if he was “too cool” to be themselves. Because that was one of the criticisms of his films

Kinda wish he would keep saying he wasn't in it, but it's cool to see him fully embrace it anyway.

Also,

Spider-Man: ''we're the same person from different universes, we're brothers''

Loki: ''about that''

It's amazing that people are incredibly obsessed with Garfield's return, even more than Tobey's.

Honestly, the personality Andrew gave to his Spider-Man is much "cooler dude" than the others.
