We know this hardly qualifies as a spoiler at this stage, but just in case, major plot reveals for Spider-Man: No Way Home follow!
As most of you will be aware by now, Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield do indeed return as their respective takes on the wall-crawler in the threequel to lend Tom Holland's current MCU incarnation of the character a helping hand, and the latter has now spoken about his experience suiting-up as Spidey for the first time since The Amazing Spider-Man movies.
During an interview with Variety, the Tick, Tick Boom! star was asked about his decision to reprise the role, and said part of the appeal was being given the opportunity to serve as a mentor, of sorts, you his younger "brother."
"We were shooting for two weeks, Toby and I, but I think we managed to achieve something that is not just showing up and going, “Hi! Bye!," said Garfield. "My Spider-Man got to save his younger brother’s romantic relationship, potentially. And to heal the most traumatic moment of his own life through doing it for his younger brother. Making sure that he didn’t have the same fate, there’s something cosmically beautiful about that. It meant getting a second chance at saving Gwen."
Of course, Garfield is referring to the moment his Spider-Man is able to rescue Zendaya's MJ from the Green Goblin after Holland's is incapacitated. The actor was also asked about shooting scenes with his fellow Spider-Men, and reveals that he actually improvised the "I love you guys" line.
So, after such a positive experience on this movie, would Garfield consider staying on as Spider-Man for a future project?
"I mean, yes, definitely open to something if it felt right," he replied when asked about the prospect of returning. "Peter and Spider-Man, those characters are all about service, to the greater good and the many. He’s a working-class boy from Queens that knows struggle and loss and is deeply empathetic. I would try to borrow Peter Parker’s ethical framework in that, if there was an opportunity to step back in and tell more of that story, I would have to feel very sure and certain in myself."
There have been rumors that Sony Pictures might be developing another solo project for Garfield's webhead, but nothing solid just yet. If we were to see The Amazing Spider-Man again, where would you most like him to swing into action?
