SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME Is Reportedly The Current Frontrunner In Oscars' First "Fan-Favorite" Award

Despite previous reports that Cinderella was the frontrunner to win the inaugural "Fan-Favorite" award at this year's Oscars, it's now said that Spider-Man: No Way Home is once again leading the charge...

The Academy's decision to launch a "Fan-Favorite" award during this year's Oscars has been met with a mixed response. For starters, it's a glorified Twitter poll and no actual award will be handed out, with the driving force behind it seemingly being to increase the show's falling ratings.

For comic book fans upset that Spider-Man: No Way Home was snubbed in the "Best Picture" race, however, it is a shot at redemption for the movie that has grossed over $1.8 billion worldwide.

Prime Video's Cinderella was previously reported to be the clear frontrunner, but Variety now claims that the wall-crawler's latest solo outing is currently leading the charge. They're basing this on a survey of U.S. adults, so while these "results" are by no means definitive, it may bode well for the blockbuster. If nothing else, a win here will be good free promotion for its Digital and Blu-ray release.

Oscar or no Oscar, Spider-Man: No Way Home's box office success has set a record during this "pandemic era" no other movie is likely to match for some time. It was also the best-reviewed film released last year, and both of those accomplishments promise to keep the web-slinger in the Marvel Cinematic Universe for a long time to come (which is the most important thing for many fans).

Tom Holland has said he wants to take a break from Peter Parker, though we're sure Sony Pictures wasted no time in signing him to a huge money deal after this latest movie's unprecedented success.

Spider-Man: No Way Home is released on Digital on March 22 and physical platforms on April 12.
