SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME Star Angourie Rice Discusses The Level Of Secrecy Surrounding The Movie

There may be a lot of big rumours out there about Spider-Man: No Way Home, but in terms of confirmed details, those are few and far between. Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures appear to be going to great lengths to keep the plot of the threequel under wraps, and that means the movie's cast has to choose their words very carefully.

During a recent interview with Collider, Betty Brant actress Angourie Rice opened up on the level of secrecy that comes with working on a franchise as big as this one.

"The way that like Marvel protects the story is beyond anything I’ve ever experienced," she explained. "It’s so secret. Shooting Spider-Man was like getting to go to a really cool theme park, but you couldn’t tell anyone because it’s the world’s most secret theme park. That was tricky."

"They are super secretive about everything. After being a part of it and seeing how people speculate from photos online and single lines in previous films, the fans of Marvel do some really great guesswork, for sure, so I understand."

In the same conversation, Rice reflected on what it's been like to play Betty during her formative years. "I grew up on Spider-Man, not in the sense of growing up reading the comics, but I was 15 when I signed up to do the first one and by time this last one comes out, I’m gonna be almost 21."

"In my mind, Betty growing up, Betty getting ready to graduate, and Betty getting her first boyfriend and going to school dances and traveling overseas, that happened in my life, at the same time. Betty and me, our trajectories are very parallel, in terms of how we grew up. That community and that story will always be a huge part of my life and my adolescence."

The actress stole the show as Betty on more than one occasion in Spider-Man: Far From Home, so that hopefully means she gets a decent role in this sequel. However, if Tom Holland's Peter Parker really is going to swing into action alongside the versions played by Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield, it's possible his high school life will be pushed to one side in this movie.

Spider-Man: No Way Home is set to be released in theaters on December 17, 2021.

In what world did she steal the show in her minimal and forgettable role as NPC X of Peter's annoying classmates?

@kitheka - Perhaps in how her and Ned played off each other?

I thought I heard somewhere that most of that was improvised.

I love the MCU Spidey films, but it's really been a shame to see incredibly talented young actors like her, Tony Revolori and Abraham Attah just kind of sit there without having their talents utilized. I'd hope they have more to do in this movie (and they could have done some really good stuff if they stuck to the "On the Run" approach FFH set up). But instead now we're stuck with the Multiverse, so they'll probably get sidelined again.
