Sam Raimi And James Franco Reflect On THE SPIDER-MAN TRILOGY

As well as dropping a few interesting details about Oz: The Great and Powerful, director Sam Raimi and actor James Franco look back on their time together working on The Spider-Man Trilogy and how that led to them re-teaming for Disney's fantasy epic.

In the following interviews from the recent premiere of Oz: The Great and Powerful, both Sam Raimi and James Franco look back on how their time together on The Spider-Man Trilogy eventually led to them reuniting for The Wizard of Oz prequel. While the director talks about the challenges of working with an arrogant younger Franco, the actor recalls how coldly Raimi treated him during filming of Spider-Man 3 because he was playing a character trying to kill Peter Parker. These are two interesting stories from two very different perspectives, and despite any past differences, it's clear that the duo enjoyed working with each other on the Disney film which is expected to gross upwards of $80 million at the North American box office this weekend.

"Oz The Great and Powerful" imagines the origins of L. Frank Baum’s beloved character, the Wizard of Oz. When Oscar Diggs (James Franco), a small-time circus magician with dubious ethics, is hurled away from dusty Kansas to the vibrant Land of Oz, he thinks he’s hit the jackpot—fame and fortune are his for the taking—that is until he meets three witches, Theodora (Mila Kunis), Evanora (Rachel Weisz) and Glinda (Michelle Williams), who are not convinced he is the great wizard everyone’s been expecting. Reluctantly drawn into the epic problems facing the Land of Oz and its inhabitants, Oscar must find out who is good and who is evil before it is too late. Putting his magical arts to use through illusion, ingenuity—and even a bit of wizardry—Oscar transforms himself not only into the great and powerful Wizard of Oz but into a better man as well.

spider-man 4/5 very good but the design of the green goblin could been better.

spider-man 2 4/5 best of the trilogy,one of best comic book movies ever.

spider-man 3 2/5 average movie,some great action letdown by emo pete,the sandman killing uncle ben plotline & the mistreatment of venom.

Damn, I wish James Franco was my pot dealer. I once got busted for weed almost three years ago in Georgia. I had to have my cousin from Ohio pick me up and bail me out. It was awesome.

@TheRealRemyLebeau

Franco's a good actor but Harry just came across as nothing more than a plot device in SM 1-3. Without much else to do that's where he probably picked up his habit.

Go back and re-edit Spider-man 3 without the dance sequences and it will be watchable enough to enjoy as a trilogy.

Spider-man 2 remains the pinnacle of the series. The Amazing Spider-man still feels dull and pointless after watching them.

@grif I was thinking the exact same thing. McGuire was the hot ticket for awhile, but it seems like he's disappeared in recent years. Has be been in any major releases lately? Maybe he needs to smoke more weed; that seems to be working for Franco...

@grayfox117 SM2 is in my top 5 for sure. I liked the "Evil Dead" elements of that movie. I think that plus Alfred Molina's portrayal of Ock are what made that movie fantastic.

SM3's biggest fault wasn't the dancing or Venom or "my daughter wah wah wah" it was MJ. The first half of that movie is supposed to be about how Peter is so wrapped up in his success as Spider-Man that he can't see the cracks in his relationship and isn't there for MJ when she needs him. Instead, MJ comes off as a completely selfish bitch who we feel no sympathy for and instead of being appalled at Peter's turn to the Dark Side we're like damn right, screw that bitch.

So when Peter puts on the black suit, yeah he becomes a douche but really it's all MJ's fault and the premise of the movie falls apart.
