Next summer's
The Amazing Spider-Man 2 will introduce new villains Electro (Jamie Foxx), Rhino (Paul Giamatti), and MAYBE Green Goblin (Chris Cooper). Especially after
Spider-Man 3 featured three villains, it's often worrying when a film features several villains at once, and for good reason. But speaking with
MTV Splash Page at the premiere of
Star Trek Into Darkness, screenwriters Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman address this concern, saying that a villain (or any character) should not be featured in a movie just for the sake of being there.
"I think you have to go into it and say, 'is this character essential to the story or are you just throwing him in for no reason whatsoever'," said Kurtzman.
"We would never do anything other than what felt like it was organic to the flow of the story. A lot of consideration was given to the construction of that [story], so that when you see it, you'll get the big picture."
