Sony Sets Date for Amazing Spider-Man Sequel

Sony Sets Date for Amazing Spider-Man Sequel

When the notion of rebooting the Spider-Man film franchise initially came up, there were a lot of people who thought that it was a crazy idea given the success of the Sam Raimi films. Apparently Sony no longer fears being committed as they've already scheduled the sequel.

According to Deadline, it looks as though Spider-Man 2 (or whatever they end up calling it) will kick off the summer 2014 moviegoing season by launching on May 2nd.

"'I think it speaks volumes about our confidence in what we are seeing on the new film and our desire to move quickly on the next installment,' a Sony exec tells me about the reboot of its biggest superhero franchise from Marvel," writes Deadline.

The seasons of the superheroes continues. Next year we get Spidey, Batman and The Avengers, while summer 2013 will see the release of Man of Steel and likely Thor 2 and Iron Man 3. At this point it's unclear who else will be joining the web-slinger in 2014, though one would imagine Captain America 2 a possibility.

Iron Man 3 and Thor 2 are coming out in 2013, not 2014.
But this is cool news, hope both Spidey films will be good.

Well they script is being written for it so it was inevitable that they were going to announce a sequel but this is some serious confidence hopefully it doesn't back fire like GL then again a sequel might still happen for that movie despite being bad and the underwhelming box office results.

I imagine they are filming some stuff right now to use in the sequel. They really don't want to give up the rights to making Spidey flicks, do they?

Ant-Man and Dr. Strange will release in summer 2014 and depending on whether or not next years causes superhero exhaustion, they might release Captain America 2 also.

@JKM Yeah, Twitchfilm thinks Dr. Strange could come out sometime in 2013. I doubt it'll be ready for the summer (unless it's given an August/September release or whatever), I think it'll likely be out around the end 0f 2013 (if not sometime in 2014).

Well of course they greenlit it. I recall reading a few years back that sony hired Vanderbilt to write parts 4 5 and 6 of Spider man. Raimi didnt like the script, so he hired Gary Ross to rewrite it.

@Prot3ctor I'm hoping we get Goblin again, I wanna see Gwen killed off in the next film (nothing against her character, but I'm itching to see the 'Death Of Gwen Stacy' storyline adapted to film ASAP). Maybe Shocker as a minor villain.

THE WORLD IS NOT GOING TO END!

@Prot3ctor
I think either Rhino (very likely) or Kraven.
Yeah Green Goblin is most likely for the third movie.
Jericho

i really want electro!!!!! and second choice would be kraven the hunter
Ric
Ric - 8/5/2011, 11:48 AM
cool villain would be Rhino, Morbius, Kraven, The Scorpion or the guy with the glass over his head think his name is Mysterio :D
CrimboStrange
CrimboStrange - 8/5/2011, 11:52 AM
Ant-Man/Dr. Strange/ Captain America 2 would be sick to see in 2014

As for this sequel....meh. The first one looks mediocre from what I saw at Comic Con.
oghalfrican232
oghalfrican232 - 8/5/2011, 11:52 AM
@Ric
Yeah, Rhino definately, Morbius would be sweet, yes the Scorpion, and I would like to see either the Chameleon or Mysterio to partner with the Green Goblin in the third movie!

So I was right! An article I made before said either it would come in 2014 or 2015. So I was right! This article makes me happy :) i'm going to make an editorial now about what I want to see in the sequel.

@SuperArgo
lol I know right!

I hope right before the opening credits they have the Marvel logo at the beginning. I was pissed off when I didn't see it in the preview! Sony is going to get there ass whooped if they don't respect Marvel!!!

We get Lizard in the first film, Symbiote story and Shocker for sequel, which sets up for Venom in third.
Frogman
Frogman - 8/5/2011, 12:05 PM
so much for Sony going bankrupt next year. You wouldn't plan sequels if you knew you were about to go out of business! I think the sequel should open with Spidey beating the crap outta Rhino or Shocker! just a minor but awesome opening battle
marvel72
marvel72 - 8/5/2011, 12:45 PM
they should call the next spidey film "the spectacular spider-man".
