SPIDER-MAN Update: Sony Thinks It'll Be Fine Without Feige, But Both Parties Could Return To The Table

SPIDER-MAN Update: Sony Thinks It'll Be Fine Without Feige, But Both Parties Could Return To The Table

As the fallout from the news that Spider-Man will be leaving The MCU continues, a new report indicates that there may still be hope for Sony Pictures and Disney/Marvel to return to the table at some point.

Okay, so at this point you're probably all a bit sick of hearing about the Spidey situation, but we do have an update which may be of interest - particularly for those still living in hope that things can be resolved and the Webhead won't have to leave The MCU.

THR has shared a lengthy report on what exactly went down in the lead-up to yesterday's huge announcement, and it definitely sounds like both parties are at fault to some degree. At the end of the day, everything boils down to money with these big studios, and Disney simply wanted a bigger piece of the pie when Far From Home proved to be so successful - although this report does claim that Disney was looking for "at least" a 30 percent stake, not 50.

On Sony's part, it's said that studio chief Tom Rothman believes the success of Venom and Into The Spider-Verse means they've "learned everything we need to from Kevin’s playbook" and are ready to forge ahead with Marvel-less Spider-Man projects.

It doesn't look like either side is willing to budge right now, but all may not be lost. Insiders believe that this is a "lose-lose for everybody" involved, and with so much money to be made, Disney/Marvel and Sony will come to some kind of agreement... eventually!

Of course, that may not happen until a few years from now when both studios realize there's more to be gained by sharing this particular web/money spinner. In the meantime, we're just going to have to wait and see what happens.

I really don’t mind Spider-Man leaving the MCU and joining Sony’s as of now Spider-Manless universe. Atleast now we know for sure Spider-Man can fight Kraven and Venom.

Anyway, if Lord & Miller just make a live-action Spider-Verse movie, Sony definitely wont need Feige anymore

Well, if there is no deal coming soon, then I hope Sony makes multiverse Spidey movies with Holland, Garfield, Maguire, and everyone associated with them. And I hope they also add Miles Morales, Spider-Gwen, and many more.

Exactly, there's no way this is forever. There is no other option for Spider-Man but to remain in the MCU. Nobody would watch another recast happen.

I sure hope they work it out because another Spider-man movie from the people who gave us this:

And from the executive responsible for this:

Does not inspire a lot of confidence in the future of Spider-man movies.

As always, Sony is f*cking clueless. Venom was a fluke and Spider-verse was good despite of them, not thanks to them. I mean, they released in December to get buried under oother releases, because of that is the lowest grossing Spidey movie despite being arguably the best one.

I know Disney it's at fault too, but f*ck these guys just as much if not more.

Sony has so so so much to lose here. Bond isn't enough to keep it profitable through a decade. And if the fans boycott Spiderman they will put themselves in the red during their fiscal earnings.

The funny thing here is how Marvel Studios made their Spiderman films successful and by them pulling out of the MCU they pull out of all other characters and lore. So they will be forced to either bring back Garfield or reboot again. They think this little tough guy move will benefit them. Disney won't budge till Sony agrees. And the ones who lose are the fans and Tom Holland.

I just want to state I am NOT Tom Rothman. 😂😂😂😂
Although we share the exact opinion with Spidey and their ability to make Spidey films minus MCU.

Guys....

Love you all but 50% of Spiderman movie profits is not a good deal for Sony. He is their golden IP - they could finance these movies 100%, release the movies, and make way more bang for their buck.

The only way the deal would make sense is for their to be a 100% increase in the current revenue that Spidey brings in to make that 50% deal viable.

They had a good deal going - Spidey no doubt brings in the bucks for the team-up movies...he’s one of the most popular superheroes in the planet. Probably top 3.

So correct me if I’m wrong, but this whole stink is based upon percentages on a Spider-man movie’s first day of release? So Far From Home made $39 million on its opening day, and under the current arrangement Disney made $1.95 million, but now they want $19.5 million?

Are these two giant, multi-billion dollar companies seriously breaking-up over $10-$20 million per movie? Doesn’t Disney make that much money selling merchandise and theme park tickets in a day? It seems like a fairly paltry amount to permanently sever a relationship over.

Also The only credit I give Sony for Into The SpiderVerse being good is the fact they hired Lord and Miller, the Kong’s or making bad ideas gold. It happens that Sony has a lot of bad ideas so their a perfect fit

I want to see Sony's Spider-man. Each version they understand who Spider-man is, with great power comes great responsibility. Emotional weight and consequences are a core aspect of Spider-man and the MCU ignores that completely, belittles the character and treats him as just a fanboy.

They never let him be Spider-man and they had every intent to just kill him off or replace him with Miles Morales who they already established in Homecoming and time jumped in Far From Home to set-up him taking over. They were rushing just to get to Miles Morales.

Also I half blame Disney because 50/5o is a lot and they could go down to 70/30 but also Sony is a bit of a butt because giving Marvel only 5% OF THE OPENING WEEKEND when they are literally making the movie for them, reinvigorating the brand, and letting them buy into the most popular franchise in history is a highway robbery.
