Speaking to CBR about the finale of Avengers: Ultron Revolution, Marvel VP of Animation Stephen Wacker disclosed that the upcoming new Spider-Man TV show will look to adapt 2011's Spider-Island crossover which saw normal residents of Manhattan gain Spider-Man's abilities but slowly begin to mutate into the Man-Spider version of the wall-crawler.  "Another story we have coming up on the Spidey side… we’ll get to ‘Spider Island’ at some point.  That was a big Spider-Man story in publishing."

Another modern Spider-Man story Wacker wants to tackle is 2013's The Superior Spider-Man which saw Doc Ock swap bodies with Peter Parker but in the process, become motivated by Peter's memories to become a better Spider-Man than Peter ever was.  "The big one for me [personally] would be ‘Superior Spider-Man'.  That was the last big story I worked on in the comics side with Dan Slott. I’m not quite sure how we get there, but I’d love to see it."

Indeed it seems Wacker much prefers to tackle popular storylines from his time as an editor in lieu of focusing on the popular stories from the early days of Marvel.  "I guess also, in a lot of ways, it’s important to me that we don’t just pull from the classic stories, but [stories] that newer comic readers might recognize. ‘Superior Spider-Man’ is a good example. Not something pulled from something 40 years ago all the time, so we’re not retelling the ‘Kree/Skull War’ or ‘Spider-Man: No More.'"

As such Wacker also teased that for the second season of the Guardians of the Galaxy animated series, he'd like to see the 2006 crossover event ‘Annihilation' adapted.

So they're taking inspiration from Dan "The Mole Man" Slott? Nope. I'm out. I haven't liked anything Slott has done with my favorite character.

Your supposed to turn Peters life upside down around him, cause how he handles things is a part of what so many love about him.

Your not supposed to turn Peter himself upside down. He just doesn't respect the character imo.

Of course the writers for the show could handle it better than Slott did though. But after seeing what they did to the comic story lines on the Ultimate Spider-Man, I don't have much faith. Will still check it out though.

@WYLEEJAY - I beg to differ.

Many of Slott's decisions have led to Peter Parker growing up from the down-on-his-luck photographer who could barely make ends meet to the international businessman he is today. But one thing that has always remained is the very essence of Peter Parker.

During the Spider Island story, Spider-Man feels he will simply get in the way and decides that it isn't Spider-Man that the city needs at this moment, it is Peter Parker.

Slott demonstrates his passion for the character by allowing Peter to stand out. Since the beginning, Peter Parker's story has featured just as heavily as Spider-Man's, and the same is true here. As he is unable to help as Spider-Man, Peter takes it upon himself to rally New York by filming a viral video as Peter Parker.

I really like how slot made Peter the star and not just Spiderman.

@ComicsBornAndBred - Well the down on his luck photographer is the one I enjoy the most. The only big change I enjoyed was him joining the New Avengers. I love his interactions with the other characters. Especially when he found out the Avengers didn't get paid anymore. Lol

This sounds way better than what we've been getting. I like this alot. Sounds like Marvel wants to step up their game animation wise. Hope this is EMH levels fo good.

@Bokis - Remembering how they cancelled those good shows gets me upset every time that I remember =/

@ComicsBornAndBred @DjTheMarvelKid - Hopefully this new Spider-man show will be as good as those shows, if not better.

@SSJ2VEGETA - And the fact that they replaced them with Avengers Assemble and Ultimate Spider-Man just hurts even more...

I'm curious to see the new animation style. Not getting my hopes up about the writing.
