THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 Screenwriters Are Big Fans Of Venom

"The Amazing Spider-Man 2" screenwriters Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci about whether they've met with Sony to discuss the character appearing in Marc Webb's Spider-Man franchise or in a solo feature film.

While attending the recent Television Critics Association media event "The Amazing Spider-Man 2" screenwriters Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci were there to promote their new Fox television drama, "Sleepy Hollow" but they also discussed the upcoming Spider-Man sequel with IGN. Specifically, the duo addressed the possibility of other Spider-Man axillary superheroes appearing in the film series, a rumor that was sparked by recent talk from the movie's producers. Orci would only share when asked about a certain Spider-Man nemesis that, "We're fans of Venom." Kurtzman added, "Venom is an amazing character. Venom is a brilliant character. Part of what's interesting about Venom is that Venom can do all of the things that Spider-Man can't do, in a lot of ways. And I don't know, I guess that's why I respond to him."

The duo evaded questions about whether they've had specific discussions with Sony about tackling the character, which certainly isn't confirmation but is a little telling. Sony did snag director Josh Trank (Chronicle, Fantastic Four) to direct their Venom movie but no further information on the project has surfaced since that info hit the newswire last year.

Various individuals associated with the project continue to provide cryptic hints that the Sony Spider-Man Universe could very well include other heroes, something I proposed a while back that you guys, the fans, did not seem to be in favor of...at all.

As long as its Eddie Brock and NOT Flash Thompson...I do often wonder if a Venom solo gets going how they can make it work.I mean Spidey gotta be in there.

Unless its an already established Venom with no origin. Kind of flashback style of an origin with Spidey cameo.

I like the idea of a solo Venom movie, but I really think he should be introduced in the regular Spider-Man series first as a villain. Perhaps in The Amazing Spider-Man 3 or 4, depending on where they plan on taking the story.
Oh, and yeah, it's GOT to be Eddie Brock. Personally, I'd like it if they adapted the Ultimate Venom story arc. That could tie-in really nicely with the way Sony's handling Peter's parents in the new series AND it'd be a way of differentiating itself from Spider-Man 3's interpretation of Venom.

i like how they introduced John Jameson the astronaut as a way to introduce the symbiote, then had it randomly crash in Central Park

Venom is an anti-hero. He means no bad only if he's confronted by spiderman. He doesn't like when someone tries to stop him. The Symbiote corrupts the host. That's one thing SP3 got right. It had Spiderman corrupted by it. I think a Venom film can be awesome. Carnage would be a good villian in it since he's likely not to make an appearance in any spidey films.

Have Spidey fight the two main villains in TASM2, have the Sinister Six group together in the third, and Spidey needs the black suit to defeat them. Bring Venom in the fourth.

I agree with superherofan. I think the ultimate version of Venom would fit the best with what Sony has established with the new rebooted series. To me that would be the best way to go. Although it seems that the studio is really interested with the Venom character since they forced Rami to put him in Spiderman 3. There has been talk of a Venom
Solo film for years now. If they do decide to to make a solo Venom film without a proper introduction from one of the other Spidey sequels the only way to do it is to show Venom already established by having flashbacks that include Spiderman and the black suits origin. If they do that I think we can all agree that the film will look rushed and not completely fleshed out. But hey, I could be wrong maybe they have something good instore for us Venom fans. I just hope they Venom justice this time around.

@MexicanSuperman

Eddie Brock is supposed to be a muscled bound freak. In the comics he was built like a brickhouse. Eddie Brock is not supposed to be some scrawny, wisecracking, smart ass. Thats one aspect of the character that Sam Raimi got wrong.

As much as I love Venom, I cant see how to make him true to the comics without going too dark.

When Eddie and Venom first joined together, Eddie broke into Black Cat's apartment and as Venom he liturally beat the living hell out of Black Cat. Seriously he Chris Browned her Rihanna.

Also even though Peter got rid of the black suit, he mafe a black suit out of fabic. And after Venom's first appearance, it was so tramatic to MJ that she never wanted to see the black suit again.

Remind you, this is just Venom's first appearance. I feel that Sony aint going to do this word for word but need to go dark and while I do think Webb can make a good Spidey given creative control I don't think he can make a good horror monster villain which is what Venom is.

I think in Spider-Man 3, Eddie was suppose to be the opposite of Peter. In the comics I've always seen Goblin and Venom being the 2 main archenemies of Spider-Man.

In SM3, Peter was a nice going guy, did what you asked of him, played by the rules, worked hard.

In SM3, Eddie was a douche who would cheat his way to the top and kiss ass.

Complete opposites.

It's a good mix. I liked Eddie in SM3 but I felt there were some things that should have been taken out.

Gonna have the same problem Spider-man 3 had with finding a less long-winded way to introduce his origins since it originally came form the Secret Wars event. Spider-man 3 just went basic with "IT SUDDENLY FELL FROM OUTTA SPACE".. meh!

Would be good if they had some sort of Crossover event with all the Marvel Ent/Sony/Fox characters and spun the Venom story out of that into one of the later Spidey movies.

Well if TASM video games is canon(which may or may not be) It said something like Doc Ock was studying some black ooze found on a satellite. It also tied-in with Scorpion.
