Asim Ahmad To Play Vampire Villain ‘Morbius’ In THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN Sequel?

While Academy Award Winning actor Jamie Foxx recently signed on to play Electro, the main antagonist of director Marc Webb's 2014 followup to The Amazing Spider-Man untold story, it seems that a villainous vampire may also have a presence in the anticipated sequel.

According to actor, stuntman Asim Ahmad's official site, he recently signed on for a supporting role in the film as Professor Michael Morbius. And he further confirmed the news to Marvel Comics writer Joe Keatinge, who is currently working on a new Morbius: The Living Vampire ongoing series.

UPDATE: According to sources of CS/SHH, Asim Ahmad has NOT joined the sequel's cast.

Asim Ahmad, 34, had small roles roles in The Dark Knight, Inception, The Dark Knight Rises and The Expendables 2. He'll also appear in next year's Star Trek Into Darkness, as a Klingon Commander.

In the comics, Michael Morbius was a Nobel Prize-winning biochemist, who had attempted to cure himself of a rare blood disease with an experimental treatment involving vampire bats and electroshock therapy. However, he instead became afflicted with a far worse condition, "pseudo-vampirism," that mimicked the powers and blood-thirst of legendary vampirism. Of course, the character likely won't show his true colors in this film, but maybe the third. What do you think?

The next installment of The Amazing Spider-Man stars Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Sally Field, Dane DeHaan, Jamie Foxx and Shailene Woodley. The screenplay is by Alex Kurtzman & Roberto Orci and Jeff Pinkner based on a previous draft by James Vanderbilt. The film will be directed by Marc Webb and produced by Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach. The untitled new film in the Spider-Man saga is set for release in 3D on May 2, 2014. Production will begin in early 2013 in New York.

With the dumb twilight comparisons the first one got, even making morbius just a character would be dumb.

[frick]ing retarded. "re-image the character", as in, the actor needs to loose about 50 lbs.

As long as they want to keep a PG rating and target the 7-14 year old males, this series is going to be shit.

IF they were going for Morbius, why not someone very thin and pale as opposed to someone a little thicker and with a somewhat dark skin tone? This guy just doesn't look like Morbius to me. Eh who knows. Maybe they will make it work.

Morbious and Electro, huh? You know, Spider-Man has some of the most interesting characters in all of comics, probably second only to Batman. It sucks that they are scrapping the bottom of the barrel for characters. I'm still waiting on Mysterio, Venom (a good version), Kraven, or Carnage. and hell, redo some of the old villains. A new Green Goblin and Doc Ock wouldn't hurt. They don't have to pic from the D List of Spider-Man villains.

This can't be real, seriously if this guy were a vampire I would piss myself laughing watching his chubby ass chasing me.

errhmmm what?? Each one of these characters should stick to either science or magic storylines. Iron Man is made by science and his storylines keep to that theme.
Thor is made by magic and his stories and based on magical worlds and characters.
SpiderMan is a character made by science and based in a very scientific reality... You can't bring and fantastical element into that... just doesn't fit

I was expecting the storyline to be based around Norman Osborne going after SpiderMan with Electro as his bodyguard

Putting Electro as the main antagonist in a Spidey movie is like the Squirrel Girl leading the Avengers

I wish they would stop picking characters soley based on the fact that they haven't been done yet in a movie. Then you end up with crappy characters no one wanted in a movie in the first place. I mean I like Jamie Foxx. He's a great actor but I don't wanna see him as Electro. I don't wanna see anyone as Electro. Electro is not a strong enough or interesting enough character for the movies. Not as the main villian anyways.

In comics Peter had six hands when he met Morbius first time. It would be great to see this arc in the movies.

I guess he'll just be playing the character as a random Oscorp scientist, no way in hell that guy's playing him as a vampire.

@SpiderTrav 'second rate actors playing major villains'? Rhys Ifans is in no way a 'second rate actor'. He may not be the most famous actor on the planet, but he is very talented. And Jamie Foxx is playing Electro in TASM 2, he's incredibly talented, worked on some of the best films made since 2000 and he's won an Academy Award, a BAFTA, and a Golden Globe for his acting. He's also a Grammy award winning musician. There's no way you can call Foxx second rate in any way.
