We are all looking forward to see what Bryan Singer has in store for us in his new film "X-Men: Days of Future Past", and at the Fantasia International Film Festival in Montreal, the director participated in a Q&A panel that also touched on his thoughts regarding "Man of Steel".

Here are some points from the Q&A -

The X-MEN films are somewhere between THE DARK KNIGHT and Marvel movies.

On Man of Steel: Very different film. A total reconception of the Donner films.

Brushed off suggestions Man of Steel had no charm. "Henry Cavill is pretty charming."

Also stated that his sequel to Superman Returns was very similar to Man of steel as it involved a Alien threat.

Singer gets far too much hate, yeah his Superman movie was a mis-fire, but he made it out of love and respect of the Donnor movies it's just that wasn't what people wanted, but his x-men movies were fantastic, X2 is argue able in the top 3-5 best CBM ever made.

Bryan Singer’s plans for its sequel involved Brainiac.

After reading what he had planned for a sequel, I was sad the sequel didn't come about. If people are bitching that superman killed zod, I'd hate to see what they would say about what Brian had planned.

I know people will hate me for this but I don't think superman returns was terrible. Sure, man of steel was better but I think SR was a good send off to the superman made by donner. A much better send off than quest for peace. When it comes to donner's version, I think of superman, superman 2 and then superman returns as its conclusion.

Singer sucks. The xmen franchise sucks. They need a reboot desperately. Ill only see these movies at the early bird price. They aren't worth full admission

I respect your Opinion. I'll admit Superman Returns did have some redeeming Qualities. supes saving the falling plane, and the John Williams score. I can honsetly say Kevin Spacey would have been a great Lex Luthor if the movie had a better script, however the movie itself was one of the most Underwhelming experiences of my life. I expected much better from it. MOS for me is the superman movie ive been waiting to see.

yea singer sucks but without him or raimi where would cam be now and days? And yet these two suck? Before he sucked people were saying his x-men films were very good, but now his x-men films suck? what happen with all of that? oh let me guess marvel started doing their own movies and they can go far away from their source material but if another studio or director does it fans complain because is not from marvel.. thats what happen and everything before marvel sucks in those fans eye and also director.

So do you guys hate Singer just because you didn't like Superman Returns, even though he made X-Men 1 and 2 (which are widely beloved)? It doesn't seem to add up. I just don't get why he receives the animosity that he does on here. He's a really good director and you can bet that his new X-Men movie will deliver the goods.

I agree with batman1216. the only thing that pissed me off about brian singer was that he left(abandoned?) the franchise to direct not just another movie but another super-hero movie.
yes I do have some complints about the characters and not making Cyclops the leader that most expect but Brent Ratner did worse in the third movie by killing the leader from the comics. I DO have some complaints about Xmen 1 and 2 but I still think they are both one of the best cbm out there.

Singer you stupid sac of dogshit, THAT should have been the film you made. Instead we got a gloomy melo-drama of a Superman spending 2 1/2 hours 'sorting out his feelings' instead of being the COMICBOOK KING OF ALL SUPERHEROES HE IS MEANT TO [frick]ING BE.

[frick] singer.

@ Highflyer - We ALL wanted a heavy-on-the-action Superman film, but one devoid of any likable characters or even just one scene that made any sense for that matter (seriously, not even one aspect of the story or plot makes sense under just the slightest amount of scrutiny) could NOT POSSIBLY be the movie you were waiting for.

The movie you SETTLED for, sure. But WAITED for??

(Re: my "likability" comment above: I'm totally cool w/changing Superman's personality and even having him kill if it was necessary, but we see Clark steal clothes from a family that's poor and then destroy a guy's livelihood b/c he got handsy w/a waitress and poured a beer on him. Supes in an a--hole. I try to explain to people: This movie is NOT a documentary, smart filmmakers could've made these ideas work. But, they just didn't. There's a reason critics tore it apart.)

I think he gets a lot of unearned hate. I rewatched his X-Men films the other day to get ready for The Wolverine, and I enjoyed them a lot more than I remember having done in the past. And I'm one of the few people who seems to like Superman Returns. None of those films are perfect, they could have all been better, but they're still solid, perfectly watchable, perfectly enjoyable films, and are all definitely more on the good side than bad. Also, The Usual Suspects is brilliant.

And it wasn't Singer who messed up the continuity of the series. His two films are perfectly in-keeping with one another. In fact, even X-Men 3 and X-Men Origins: Wolverine fit in to that continuity without any problems. The one that has messed things up is First Class, as it purposely tried to contradict things in X3 and Origins to try and remove them from continuity, due to the fact that the fans didn't like them. And even then, First Class has only raised minor contradictions (one flashback in X3, a throwaway line about Magneto helping build Cerebro in X1 which there is still room to use, and the majority of X-Men Origins Wolverine which I'm sure everyone ignores anyway). But even with those contradictions in mind, none of them were actually Singer's doing; they were caused by the directors who took over the franchise from him.

Still not really looking forward to Days Of Future Past considering what I know about it so far (particularly the huge cast which I think will be difficult to use properly), but I'll definitely give it a chance rather than pre-judge it.

@highflyer agreed, I also think Superman Returns is the perfect way to cap-off Donner's Superman and Lester's Superman II (Or Donner's cut of Superman II if you're that way inclined).

Sometimes I really don't like being considered a fan of superhero movies, because people tend to tar everyone with the same brush, and a chunk of "fans" happen to be incredibly petty, whiney, antagonistic people with selective memories that focus on the things they deem 'wrong' rather than 'right'. It's a small majority, but they also tend to be the most vocal, and because of that they tend to make everyone else look bad. People need to start focusing on the positives rather than dwelling on the negatives, because doing the opposite is a pretty sad way to go about life, especially with regards to something you're supposed to be a fan of.

Yeah, it hits in waves, too. Some days on this very site I'm trudging through spiteful, generic hate comments and I question why I even come here. Other days a thread can sustain really interesting, thoughtful discussion.

In equal measure it can remind me why I love being a fan of this stuff, and why mingling with other "fans" can be the absolute pits.
