Mark Strong On Potentially Playing Lex Luthor In SUPERMAN/BATMAN: "Watch This Space"

With Lex Luthor most likely appearing in the planned Batman/Superman movie (with Breaking Bad's Bryan Cranston being rumored for the role), Green Lantern's Mark Strong now addresses rumors of his playing the character and suggests that there is some truth to them.

Ever since the release of Man Of Steel, Lex Luthor has been rumored to make an appearance of some sort in the sequel. His company, LexCorp, was referenced a few times in the movie, and as Superman's arch-nemesis, it was expected that he would show up sooner than later. Speculation of his inclusion in the follow-up increased when it was announced that Man Of Steel 2 is actually a Batman/Superman team-up film, as Luthor has been involved in many stories involving the two iconic heroes.

Last night, Latino-Review's El Mayimbe tweeted that Bryan Cranston (Breaking Bad) is in contention for the Lex Luthor role, after previously working with Warner Bros. on Argo and the upcoming Godzilla reboot. Another rumored candidate has been Mark Strong, who is known for playing villains in his biggest films (he even portrayed Sinestro in 2011's Green Lantern), though that started from a far less reliable source. Now, speaking with Digital Spy, Strong weighs in on those rumors. "All I can say is... watch this space."

It sounds like both Strong and Cranston are two of probably several candidates being considered for the role of Lex Luthor in the untitled film, as the script is currently being written. The same can be said for the role of Bruce Wayne/Batman, with the likes of Josh Brolin, Richard Armitage and Ryan Gosling reportedly being in contention for the character. Who do you think should play Lex Luthor and Batman in the Man Of Steel follow-up? Stay tuned to CBM for more news as we have it.

Set to begin filming early next year (reportedly in Toronto) for a Summer 2015 release, Warner Bros.' untitled Batman/Superman movie currently stars Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne and Diane Lane. Zack Snyder is directing from a script written by David S. Goyer.

Cranston...while a great actor, just kinda epitomizes what I despise about fan-casting. I felt the same way about Patrick Stewart to a degree as Professor X. It takes no imagination to put these actors in these roles, simply because we've seen them bald. It's like casting someone from 300 to play Marvel's Hercules. Eh...

I'm sure Strong would be amazing, as he has been in every single role I've seen him in. And he could probably use a win after the stings he got from Green Lantern and John Carter (both movies I enjoyed, but Strong has been vocal about his disappointment with their performances in the box office).

Hell ya! I love Mark Strong! He is an incredble actor and if he portrayed Luthor, I feel he would gain his respect in Hollywood and audiences as the incredible actor he is!

Please keep him as Sinestro like seriously that man was the best part of that movie. Billy Zane is still perfect for Lex in my opinion.

I say go with Strong for Luthor; Cranston for Jim Gordon in the Batman films.

It's perfect because only one of them can play Jim Gordon, while both have the ability to play Lex, so just kill two birds with one stone and sign them onto separate movies!

Cranston would make a better Jim Gordon in my opinion, although he could kill the role as Lex. Still though, Mark can't play Gordon, but Brian can. This way, WB has an even more star studded cast to increase attention. Who am I kidding, these movies won't need attention cause they will be amazing!

WORLDS FINEST: BRING IT ON!!!

So if Cranston is rumored, why did you deleted the guy's article who posted that news?

Either way Strong is the best pick. Wouldn't mind Hamm since he and Snyder worked together.

Love Cranston, but Strong is better suited. Glad BC is getting movie work, but Strong is a no brainer.

If Ryan Gosling ends up being Batman, I promise I will make it my business to make as many people boycott the movie as humanly possible. It's unreal how often casting (rumors or otherwise) can often end up absolutely unintelligent.

CAN SOMEONE PLEASE EXPLAIN TO ME THE OBSESSION WITH MICHAEL C. HALL??? He's good in Dexter... but my God, thats the ONLY thing he's good at and it's not even that impressive.

Cranston as Gordon makes sense on so many levels, not just the Year One connection.

Rosenbaum is the best Luthor yet. Better than Hackman who's Luthor was just comedy relief.

Strong was good in Kick-Ass but in John Carter his villain came across as harmless. So if he did Luthor he needs to turn it up.

If they do Luthor they should have the balls to make him more than just the evil guy who hates Superman.
We've seen many villains who were the rich, white, business guy but none go very deep into what real life rich pigs are all about.

Whites as a race get the blame for slavery in the US but it was the rich, white guys. After slavery they paid people pennies. Then minimum wage is created and Unions rise so like cockroaches they find another way to get something for nothing, So they ship jobs overseas and hire illegals.
And today we see McDs, Bk, Taco Bell makes Billions in profit a year while paying their workers a poverty wage.

I'd love to see one of these CBMs have the guts to get into what truly makes these rich guys the scum they are: the ability to look at fellow humans as slaves that exist only to make them rich.
