CW still hasn't renewed SMALLVILLE for a tenth season

...is that a good thing?

The CW gave their announcement of the shows they'll renew for the next season, and a glaring absence in the list for us Superhero fans is the not yet Superman Adventures of Clark Kent in Smallville. Though there's no need to worry... yet... I think... because these are just announcement for shows that are receiving early notice of their renewals. Smallville can just wait on their mailbox to receive their renewal notice.

Those CW shows that got renewed are Vampire Diaries(Well if you like Twilight, you love this... who am I kidding nobody in this site likes twilight), Gossip Girl(it's now the time to watch this, and see if Blake Lively is good enough for our Green Lantern), and Supernatural(Jensen Ackles fans rejoice! Yeah all two of you! just kidding).

You could read the whole press release below(like it matters):

The CW Network has given early pickups to five series for next season, including four signature dramas and the reality hit AMERICA’S NEXT TOP MODEL. All five shows will return in Fall 2010.

The series receiving early renewals include this season’s breakout hit THE VAMPIRE DIARIES, The CW’s most-watched show (4.6 million viewers) and the network’s number one show among adults 18-34 (2.5/8). THE VAMPIRE DIARIES premiere generated the largest audience in network history for a series debut (5.7 million total viewers). THE VAMPIRE DIARIES has improved The CW’s performance Thursday at 8:00 p.m. by 114% among women 18-34 this season. The network also renewed fan favorite SUPERNATURAL, which will enter its sixth season next year. SUPERNATURAL has one of the most loyal audiences of any show on television and does heroic work in a perennially tough time period. It has improved over last season among women and adults 18-34 (29% and 8%, respectively) this season, a remarkable accomplishment for a fifth-year show.

Also given early pickups for next season are The CW’s Monday night sensation GOSSIP GIRL,which is The CW’s number one show among its target demographic of women 18-34, and Tuesday’s trend-setting drama, 90210, which sees some of TV’s largest percent increases from DVR playback, nearly doubling its women 18-34 live-only ratings once live+7 data is included. Wednesday anchor AMERICA’S NEXT TOP MODEL will also be back for cycles 15 and 16 with superstar Tyra Banks and new groups of aspiring models. AMERICA’S NEXT TOP MODEL continues to rank second in the competitive Wednesday 8:00 p.m. hour among young women 18-34 (3.4/10).

I'm really hoping for a tenth season of Smallville or a first season of "METROPOLIS". After a strong season 9 they really should pick this up again, and let us see more DCU goodness.

Its a good thing. The show stopped being any good after Season 5 and its just been getting more and more disappointing ever since! There's been zero character development and after 9 years Clark still barely resembles Superman! I for one am sick of being teased with him flying or glimpses of him being a hero (not to mention Chloe and her annoying one liners) - make him more like Superman or just cancel the show before it gets any worse!

Absolute Justice def brought some life to the show and renewed my hopes of it being half way decent. At this point I have lost all hope of actually seeing Superman on this show, but hopefully we get to at least see other DC characters.

Wow. You guy are tough! I agree that the show has not been as good and that (as Josh W. stated) has gotten worse since season 5, but it's the only TV show where we actually get to see our DC heroes show up in live action. I know a lot of it can be disappointing and the teasing about the flying is really old, but you would you really rather have nothing at all?

Well Tea, I can't say your wrong because I also believe in quality over quantity. However, I guess this is still tolerable to my standards. Well, the show may not be up to the standards of most CB fans, but you still have the option of not watching it. That's what I did for a couple of seasons and now I'm giving it another shot. There is really only few possible outcomes. It either gets better and we all benefit from it, or it goes down hill and it gets canceled. I don't think we're taking a major risk here.

Yep. Smallville hasn't been renewed but SUPERNATURAL HAS! Oh yeah! Oh and that would be good news to all of you who are against Ackles as Captain because this shows that he won't be doing Captain America. lol. REJOICE LEEE!

Tea - I see your reasoning but if we learned anything from Hollywood and comics, is that there are no guarantees. True canceling Metroposville could bring a new era of superheroes on TV, or it could just be a really long time until they give it another shot. I don't know man, with this show I just feel like I'm in a bad relationship and every time I think I am going to leave her, she goes and does something sweet to make me give it one more try ...

I could see Justice League being a good segue from Smallville. As an ensemble piece, it could give the show more survivability. With the Justice Society episode getting such high ratings, maybe the suits up top are getting that some of us would like a little variety in our heroes.

@Ugh - you are one ugly sonbitch (joking), but I like how you think! I would think that the addition of other DC characters has to serve a higher purpose than just to do it for kicks. The fan boy in me would like to believe that they are testing the waters to see if it's worth investing in exactly what you suggested. Let's hope that's what really happens ;-)

SUPERNATURAL.....SUCKS!!!!!

SMALLVILLE WILL BE BACK!

here is the NEWS from CHLOE herself!

Mack: The latest with Smallville is
that we have another season (season 9).
Tom has signed for two more,(season 9 and 10)
so the show will go until season 10.
I will be completed with my contract next year,
and I am looking for new and exciting ways to
carry out my character’s exit.
I love living in Vancouver,
it is one of the most beautiful cities in the world.
I love the people, the food, the aesthetic,
and the life I have built here. It’s wonderful.

SO SUCK ON THAT GRIF!! :P

I think they'll bring it back. This season has been great for Smallville, even though The CW sent it to Fridays to die (HA!).
BryEL
BryEL - 2/17/2010, 8:44 PM
@ JLanphear - I know, right? It's like we can all either go out and party!... or stay home and watch Clark Kent not become Superman. Lol, decisions decisions!
Batson
Batson - 2/17/2010, 10:07 PM
They have more reasons not to cancel it then to cancel it.
-They will need to place a show in the friday slot.
-Smallville has better ratings than most cw shows on weekly basis(supernatural and vdiaries)
-Smallville already has a fan base and do they really want to take a risk on one of their pilots.

Also I want say I am also a fan of supernatural, but I can not be more suprised that supernatural got renewed before smallville. Its a good show, but considering their wrapping up the whole lucifer plot is their really any way to have a worse problem than that?
InstigatorGIRL
InstigatorGIRL - 2/17/2010, 11:04 PM
@Batson actually Supernatural has done better than Smallville in ratings this season. Also I have to agree I love Supernatural but where can they really go next season? I guess we'll see.

Smallville is fine Welling comes off as boring and one dimesional, but the show overall is decent. I really like Supernatural as well... sometimes it gets a little STUPID ,but 90% of the time I enjoy it. Unless Im missing something it(Smallville)doesnt seem to be leading to a climax to end the show. If anything it looks like they're creating new storylines for future tie-ins.

i hope they dont cancel it is gotten good he just need the glassess and then the superman suit. and that vampire show is actually good

InstigatorGIRL- jensen ackles could still play captain america it dont matter if he doing another season for supernatural like he did that movie next year wow still doing season 5 for supernatural

gorgeousgeeks - 2/19/2010, 11:08 AM
Well, I'm surprised that they renewed Supernatural. After all their talk about only doing five seasons, they give the show a 6th. I think they should have ended with season 5, because I think it's gotten too big and they're going to get ridiculous, though I do love Jensen Ackles.

That being said, I don't believe that CW will get rid of Smallville. They put it on Friday and it's doing well for them. What pilots do they honestly have in the works? Gossip Girl spin offs? Oh please. Smallville is their longest running show with improved writing and now they have a fanbase that actually doesn't want to hang the writers. They need to the do the right thing and give us a classy exit with season 10. They don't even have to negotiate contracts with most of the cast because they're signed for another one. But after 10, I think it's appropriate to end it.
