Superman: Legacy director James Gunn recency made it very clear that he hasn't zeroed in on any specific actors to play this latest big-screen take on the Man of Steel, but he has enlisted a casting director, and we may now have some idea of the age-range of the individuals they'll be looking at for the role.
Gunn has already confirmed that this new Superman will be younger than Henry Cavill's most recent take on the iconic hero, but it sounds like he might be a lot younger than we realized.
According to Jeff Sneider on the latest episode of John Rocha's The Hot Mic, Gunn and co. will likely be looking at actors between the age of 22 and 26. He has also heard that Lois Lane and Jimmy Olsen will appear (no big surprise there), and Lex Luthor will be the main villain.
In addition, Gunn and fellow DC Studios co-head Peter Safran are reportedly sitting on as many as 25 unannounced projects. Now, this doesn't mean that all or even most of them will ever see the light of day, but we'd be very interested to get a glimpse of what could be in the pipeline!
Right now, all we really know about Superman: Legacy is that it's set to hit theaters on July 11, 2025, and will focus on the early days of the character.
“Superman: Legacy is the true foundation of our creative vision for the DC Universe. Not only is Superman an iconic part of DC lore, he is also a favorite character for comic book readers, viewers of earlier movies, and fans around the world," said Gunn during the slate announcement. "I can’t wait to introduce our version of Superman who audiences will be able to follow and get to know across films, movies, animation and gaming.”
Who would you like to see take to the skies as the next Superman?
