SUPERMAN: New Evidence Mounts That We're Getting A New Game From GOTHAM KNIGHTS Developers

Gotham Knights was delayed as a result of COVID-19, but WB Games Montreal may already be hard at work on another DC Comics property: the long rumoured Superman game! Find more details after the jump...

WB Games Montreal is currently putting the finishing touches to Gotham Knights, but it seems they may have started work on another huge DC Comics IP.

There have been rumblings for a couple of years now that we're getting a new Superman video game, with Rocksteady (the team behind the Arkham trilogy) once rumoured to be the ones developing it. Since then, we've obviously learned that they're working on Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, so that's taken them out of the running.

Now, though, a job posting at WB Games Montreal has revealed that they're looking for a 3C Game Designer who is required to work on playable characters for a third-person open-world action game.

Nothing about that screams Superman, we know, but WB Games Montreal Creative Director Patrick Redding has been creating a lot of buzz about the Man of Steel on social media lately, while serial games industry leaker James Sigfield strongly hinted the game will be Superman-themed in a recent Tweet.

As a result, there's enough evidence to suggest that, yes, we're getting an open-world Superman game in the not too distant future. That's exciting on a number of levels, but the developer will have a tough task creating a game where we can buy into Supes being unable to leave Metropolis (especially when he can fly across the globe in seconds) and have enemies he doesn't pulverise with one punch!

Hopefully, more details will be revealed about this one before the end of the summer...

WB Games Montreal and not Rocksteady?

@soberchimera - Pretty much my reaction as well. You try to do this with Supes, you really need to use the first stringers. This is disappointing.

Why do you want this? Rocksteady should the Superman game, not a second rate studio like WB Montreal.

@Darkknight2149
Desperation.

Also, it's not like we are talking about square enix here, WB Montreal did give us Arkham Origins and the Batgirl DLC of Arkham Knight.

I'll take it, but yeah...i too absolutely wanted Rocksteady behind this, matter of fact...rumor is that they WERE working on a Superman game but got cockblocked and turned into Suicide Squad.

But with all the Superman setting, hence Braniac, Metropolis, Superman etc...

Thousands curses upon whoever stopped them.

@Doomsday8888 -
I honestly don't trust Montreal to do it justice and we already know that Rocksteady wants to make one. WB (the higher ups) should honestly stop being knuckleheads.

A good Superman game would be awesome. Like Arkham Asylum/City but with Superman.

@ChrisRed - Yeah, it would be once WB Games Montreal is out of the picture. Rocksteady is the way to go for an epic Superman game.

NO MORE [frick]ING HOOPS.

They were awful even in the two recent Spider-Man games. Find a different time sink side quest to artificially inflate the game's runtime, please.

@soberchimera - @soberchimera - It's at least partly a response to culture, and how they think certain things are outdated. Your GIF is basically dead-on accurate. But we shouldn't count Superman out yet, he was being called old-fashioned and outdated in 1977, then this happened:

ElricReturns

@soberchimera - WBs treatment of Superman ON FILM, absolutely. On TV he's had a few great iterations over the years, including right now with Superman and Lois. Not exactly the Superman show we've been begging for, but possibly even better, because this format has allowed them to flesh out Clark in a way he's never been able to, in the way that becoming a parent places you in the middle of a generational awaking. When you have kids you begin to see yourself in them, and you begin to see your parents in everything you do as a parent. How we are similar, how we do things differently, how much we are or aren't like one another as we grow up and apart and together... becoming a parent brings so much meaning to your understanding of self in the context of your family. And something I love about Superman is his indulgence in his curiosity for self discovery, and how his heritage, both El and Kent, very much form who he is and the symmetry of his character. Now, with Superman and Lois, we are exploring both Clark and even Lois in profound new ways that really bring this entire family to life. It definitely helps the writers seem to actively push against lazily relying on tropes with story telling. These characters feel... if not real, I'll say they feel grounded. And likeable as you get to know them.

I highly recommend checking it out.

I like it, but I prefer a space campaign video game. The era of colonialism on Krypton. So the Kryptonian military led by General Zod conquers planetary systems throughout the universe.
