Superman's red trunks and yellow belt to return soon? Let's hope!
With Action Comics #1000 on its way here, will the proper Superman costume make its comeback? Hit the jump to see why it absolutely should!
Everyone that wore trunks at the time of Superman's creation (wrestlers, strongmen, olympic athletes) still wears them today, so how can they be "outdated" when they are still being used as they always have been?
And even, hypothetically, if they were "dated" and no longer in use, that look has come to mean something else and taken on a life of its own because of Superman, it means SUPERHERO.
Also, color balance -- the purpose that the red trunks and yellow belt serve -- is NEVER dated, which is why the design lasted for over 70 years.
Even if the design were "dated" and "silly", if it was acceptable in a time that had higher dress standards than we do today, when men wore suits to see movies, and people did not wear pajamas in walmart, why is it so wrong of Superman to wear trunks when we have such lax standards in dress today? Boys can dress like girls, animals, heck, boys can be girls or animals for that matter if they like, in a world where there are 21 genders and less standards by the day, why is it that the "standard" against trunks and color balance is the only standard that remains?
Why is it Zack the hack Snyder, the self proclaimed devotee of realism, said Superman's trunks had to go because they weren't "realistic enough", when real professions wear them in real life to this day, the professions that inspired Superman and his uniform, no less (athletic tights, as Siegel and Shuster said, are what inspired Superman's costume), yet Zack the hack Snyder let King Leonidas and the 300 spartans have nothing but trunks and a cape, even though the spartans never dressed that way in real life.
Zack the hack Snyder even let Nite Owl and Ozymandias have trunks in his distortion of WATCHMEN, the self proclaimed most realest, most grittiest, most edgiest superhero movie of all time, yet when it came time for Superman to get his shot, his clothes had to go in Snyder world, even though they are iconic, something he is known for, and nothing "dated" lasts for over 70 years through eras of constant fasion changes and trends. The stupidity is strong at Warner Butchers/DC.
And one more thing: the biggest strawman argument the distorters of Superman's costume push is that the suit has "been constantly changing since the beginning", when this is a load of horse dung. THE SUPERMAN SUIT HAS REMAINED THE SAME SINCE ITS INCEPTION, in that it has always been a blue shirt, blue pants, red cape, red trunks, red boots, yellow belt, and red and yellow S shield.
How is this not true? You can quibble over the shadings of the colors, the style of the S and boots, and length of the cape, but all of the parts and colors have remained the same, right up until New Fifty-Screw (but New Fifty-Screw isn't Superman, so that, Snyderman, and CWman cannot be counted, nor can flukes which were lways intended as temporary like the black costume from the Death/Return Of Superman comic series).
Anyone who argues otherwise is being disingenuous and making false comparisons, and dare I say, not even worthy to be called a fan. Those that hate and want to vandalize the true looks and characters are in no manner fans of the characters, they are fans of themselves, like Didio, Lee, and Johns.
The Superman costume is about showmanship, just like the outfits of wrestlers and strongmen.
Whether those professions are as popular as they once were or not is irrelevant, when Superman has red on the trunks area of his pants and yellow on the belt area of his pants for color balance, and color balance is always in style.
Athletic tights are what inspired the Superman costume, Superman wears his costume for showmanship as an athlete would, and athletes who wear athletic tights are more popular than ever (not just wrestlers, Olympic athletes, and strongmen, but also football players, basketball players, baseball players, hockey players, and many other athletic professions, who, whether they wear tights or not, all wear colorful outfits for showmanship, as Superman does. The Superman costume has its roots in athletics, and athletic tights specifically, so everything on his suit is entirely appropriate).
What do they have against color balance?
Why is it that Lex Luthor is given trunks in Justice League Action?
Why is it that Darkseid is allowed to have trunks in Justice League Action?
...and Beast Boy is allowed to have trunks in Teen Titans/Teen Titans Go:
...yet Superman (and Batman), in the very same show that Darkseid has trunks in, is not allowed to have trunks:
It's a case of selective enforcement directed against Superman, by egotistical shmucks who think they are better than the characters as well as their creators.
You say "Oh, well, those aren't trunks on Beast Boy and Darkseid, they are unitards!", well, my point still stands, as the unitards serve the same purpose as the trunks, and are derived from the same source (athletic tights).
Darkseid has a skirt in the comics originally and for much of his publishing history (though some artists draw it as trunks/a unitard), yet DC, in its anti "things that look like trunks" agenda, let Darkseid have trunks in Justice League Action, where they still kept them outlawed on Superman and Batman.
....and what about Green Lantern? Why are Darkseid and Beast Boy allowed to have unitards, but Green Lantern isn't?
Here is how Green Lantern is supposed to look:
...and here is his post "Rebirth" look in the comics, which, although not as bad as losing the red trunks and yellow belt on Superman, since at least Green Lantern's color balance is kept somewhat, though not fully, it now makes Green Lantern less unique and look like he is wearing Spider-Man's costume pattern on the chest (while Spider-Man, along with Superman and The Flash, has one of the best designed costumes of all times in comics, Green Lantern is not supposed to have his costume patterened after Spider-Man, and Green Lantern looked good on his own, free of Spidey's influence):

If you think trunks are silly and that you would never wear them in public, ask yourself if you would feel silly wearing a cape in public:
....or a thing that looks like a onseie/footie pajamas:
...or any of the other things superheroes are famously known for wearing. Try wearing just one element of their suits on your every day clothes, and see how "funny" you feel.
Because I guarantee one thing: you will never look or feel as awesome as this:
So stop trying to destroy it. Superman's image and costume clearly works, which is why it has endured for nearly 100 years. It has transcended "fads" and "trends" into timelessness, where it will remain forever.
It's not about being against change, it is about being against BAD change. Change is neither inherently good or bad, it only becomes one or the other depending on what it is changing. If it is changing something good, like Superman's costume, then it is bad.
If you believe all change is good change all of the time, no matter what, then go and burn your house down, since it is a change to how it was before. If you aren't okay with this, then according to your own logic, you are just against change.
But that is disingenuous and you know that is not the case, is it?
