New TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES Movie In The Works With Colin & Casey Jost On Board As Writers

Paramount Pictures is set to take another crack at the Heroes in a Half-Shell, with a new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles live-action movie now in development from writers Colin and Casey Jost.

A new live-action Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie is in the works at Paramount Pictures, with Saturday Night Live's Colin Jost and his brother Casey tapped to pen the script.

The studio relaunched the franchise in 2014, and followed-up with a 2016 sequel, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of The Shadows. Neither movie received much in the way of a positive reception from critics, but they did fare pretty well at the box office. There's no word on whether this new project will be connected to the previous films, but Michael Bay will be back as producer along with Andrew Form, Brad Fuller, Scott Mednick and Galen Walker.

Paramount reportedly "still sees the IP as a high priority," but the studio would probably be wise to start again from scratch with this latest movie. A CGI TMNT movie from Seth Rogen's production company Point Grey Pictures is also in development.

Jost has been one of the main writers on Saturday Night Live since joining the team in 2005. This marks the first time he will be working on a major studio franchise, but he is also writing Worst Man for Universal, which he is set to co-star in with fellow SNL alum Pete Davidson.

What do you guys make of this news? What do you hope to see from this latest attempt to bring the lean, green fighting machines to the big screen?

Maybe just focus on the one Turtles movie right now and get that right? Because there hasn’t been a decent one since 1990?

@Asterisk - I know! We need folks with the same spirit behind the Mandalorian and Cobra Kai to be behind these other nostalgic properties.

Seems like an obvious pattern with the success of those IPs vs TMNT of the last few years where people are more concerned with putting their own stamp and twist on things rather than elevating the material or going deeper with what is available!

@Turtlestrong - yeah until the 7 deadly hollows break out of their statues and are caught in superbly boring fashion. Loved the Leo/Raph stuff. As always everyone was interested except Donnie, which is to say, it was perfect. Shredder daughter stuff was way better than statue stuff.

@Asterisk - TMNT 2 was a fun movie wasn't bad by any means but TMNT was legit and still holds up today. That one was massive at the time...TMNT was everywhere!I don't remember anything after TMNT 2...it's been a big crap fest since!

They need to go back to what made everyone love TMNT and why that movie is still loved today.First thing first is get rid of the shitty cgi!

That said...if Bay is till connected to these movies then there is zero hope!

@TheWalkingCuban - Sure, it could feel a little different for the general audience...but it could be cool if done well. Or portrayed in the right ways.

I really liked how the animated series from...I think early mid 2000's was handled. It was the one where they eventually went into the future, and a few episodes back in time.

Main thing is handle it with care and not mess it up by trying to change the wrong things because they don't trust the source material and its audience to show up.
