Script Review: How Much Does THE CROW Reboot Differ From Brandon Lee's Version?

In 1994, The Crow, a graphic novel created James O'Barr, was brought to life by Dark City director Alex Proyas. The film would star Brandon Lee as Eric Draven, a musician who comes back from the dead to seek revenge against the people responsible for his own death and the death of his fiancee. The supernatural/actioner was a huge hit at the box office and received fairly favorable from critics. Of course, the film had a dark eerie element to it that can never be duplicated, as it was Brandon Lee's final role. The young promising actor, son of the great martial artist Bruce Lee, tragically died during filming when a firearm for a scene was mishandled.

But now, almost twenty years later, Relativity Media has decided to see if can bring The Crow back to life. At the helm for this version is F. Javier Gutierrez ("Before The Fall"), and the new Eric Draven will be played by Luke Evans ("Fast & Furious 6").

So, how much will this reboot differ from the 1994 original? Quite a bit it seems. According to Latino-Review's @Da7e, who provides a video script review, this new version will have Eric Draven as murdered police officer instead of a musician. And that is just the tip of the iceberg. This Eric Draven will also be highly religious, quoting bible passages left and right. Oh, and he is an orphan, and his fiancee will be an orphan, and both of them knew each other at an early age because they came from the same orphanage. What?! There is also some nonsense about ghost powers, being a reverse Spider-Man and a guardian dog from hell. Check it out!

I don't think just because Brandon Lee died making the film, means it can't be redone. Because you know screw the author.

But of course I don't really want to see it redone because I already saw that film.

It's funny with these fanboys. If a site doesn't get every single scoop correct, then they have no credibility, despite the fact they have been right on occasions.

Latino Review are reliable. Get over it

I don't trust it.
First, it sounds like an obvious "OMG GUYS I READ THE SCRIPT LOLOLOLOL".
Second, this guy isn't even El Mayimbe, who i'll get to soon, so his opinion and statements have no backing.
Third, Latino Review are not reliable, especially not El Mayimbe. So far, i can only count 2 instances they've been right, the leaked Destroyer image and MCD as Kilowog. that's it.

The original movie works so well because it's a product of it's time. I'm not really sure how they could make that character work today, and I'm frankly not interested in seeing a Chris Angel look alike running around a CGI backdrop with My Chemical Romance playing on the soundtrack.

Please don't remake the Crow. Its was an epic movie of its time. Everything about it was perfect - the music, the actors, the story. So no. Just no.

Whoa... Just rename the character, give it to a stellar A-list writer for a new treatment, and please keep the Cerberus out of it, unless you are going full Crow 2037, and in that case, while its fresh and different, it was terribly, terribly strange. You can find that one online. He's like a bounty hunter w/ a sidekick.

well that is deeply horrifying if true.

on the other hand, i remember when the talk of Bradley Cooper as the Crow first came about a few years ago and thinking it was a horrible idea, but the shopped pics of him in the crow makeup was pretty badass.

i still think the best course of action for this movie is to kind of go the Superman Returns route with it. place it in the same world and give the occasional nod to the Brandon Lee version, forget the sequels and just make it a pseudo sequel that focuses on a different character who had a tragedy occur.

lel Latino Review. Huehue. I honestly think article author's should disregard them as a source all together. But no. They will keep taking rubbish sources to get there articles on main. Oh and nailbiter111 said they nailed loads of Iron Man 3 stuff. Well, a few real calls don't equal the tones of rubbish they've given before.

Oh and this script is bad by the sounds of it. But I will still go and see it before I judge.

Is it really that hard to ask for an accurate adaptation of the graphic novel, rather than some other "new spin" on the character of the Crow. Different takes is what we got from City of Angels to Wicked Prayer, and they all suck.

The source material is rich and pretty unexplored. You don't need to remake the 1994 Crow, you can just attempt to adapt the same story in a much more faithful way.

We don't need any of this murdered cop bullshit.

I've never understood why after the first movie all the characters their faces like that. Other than studio heads I suppose. Draven does it in the comics and movie because the mask was pertinent. Is it like, part of the package? Avenge you and your loved ones death. Also, paint your face like an angsty mime. It the only way the crow powers work. Or something.

Because it was not supose to be a Damn franchise @mctrinket...
It should be just that amazing Alex Proyas film... but hollywood had to come and f.. up.
