Watchmen Writer Set To Pen Script For Reinvention Of The Crow!

Variety's Jeff Sneider has just broken the news that the writer of Zack Snyder's Watchment has been hired to pen the upcoming reboot of The Crow, previously rumored to star Bradley Cooper...

Here is an excerpt from the report over at Variety. While I'm no expert when it comes to The Crow, I'd say it's pretty great news that the guy who helped so successfully translate the Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons' graphic novel to the big screen has been hired to reintroduce this particular character to audiences.

Relativity Media and producer Edward R. Pressman have tapped "Watchmen" scribe Alex Tse to write their reinvention of "The Crow," based on the comic by James O'Barr.

Bradley Cooper is attached to star in the pic, which will be directed by Juan Carlos Fresnadillo ("28 Weeks Later").

Relativity's adaptation of "The Crow" is expected to be a gritty reboot of the iconic gothic character Eric Draven, who returns from the grave on a mission to avenge his wife's murder so that his soul can rest.

What do you guys make of this news? Be sure to share your thoughts in the usual place and stay tuned for more info on this reboot as and when we have it!

Why would you want to re-invent a movie that was already perfect? There is nothing to gain from this.

BRADLEY COOPER?..THING IS IT SHOCKS ME, HE IS ABSOLUTELY NOT THE GUY I WOULD HAVE GOTTEN BUT THEN AGAIN THEY ARE REBOOTING IT, SO HECK IF WE KNOW HOW THEYRE GOING ABOUT DOING IT. IF YOU WERE TO ASK ME WHO WOULD I HAVE PICKED I WOULD HAVE GONE WITH JARED LETO OR SOMEONE ALONG THAT LINE WHO COULD PROLLY PULL OFF THAT "GOTHIC YET ROCK" STYLE..I DUNNO, YOU OUGHT TO LEAVE THE CROW ALONE, YOU COULD DO A CROW MOVIE WITHOUT IT BEING DRAVEN

@ar9998 apart from Money and we all know thats all they care about. The next reboot has to be the shawshank redemption this time set in out of space and instead of Red being played by Morgan freeman it shall be played by a CGI sock puppet.

if you are going to remake the Crow, make it with a different character and actor. Brandon Lee was Eric Draven and that's the way it is. now if you are going to remake it, make it about a different character, because no one is going to live up to Lee.

the only person who could do the crow justice in a reinvention is joseph gordon levitt and bradley cooper is a terrible choice

The Crow is not nearly as great a movie as some people make it out to be - particularly in the acting/dialogue department (and yes, that includes Brandon Lee's overrated performance)

That being said, it's still one of my favorite movies. It's not the masterpiece some believe it to be, but it's still by far one of the most atmospheric and visually compelling films ever made.

Jared Leto or Joseph Gordon Levitt for the Crow. Why is Bradley Cooper here?

I don't think it has been confirmed that Bradley Cooper is the Crow. I could think of a thousand actors that are better for the role. I vote Cillian Murohy for the role because his voice reminds me of Brandon Lee's and he has the look as well.

Bradley Cooper, REALLY. First Superman with the worst casting in the world, now they're screwing up The Crow?? WTF!!!!!!!! SHEESH!!!!!!! Hollywood is really screwing up our beloved comic book movies by not giving a crap what the fans think or want. Green Lantern is the perfect example.

People need to be a little more open minded. Yes, Brandon Lee had a fantastuc performance, but that doesn't mean that another actor could also produce a unique and groundbreaking performance in the role also. I'm looking forward to another take on The Crow.

I like Cooper as an actor, but definately not as The Crow.

Some movies shouldn't be touched. I agree, it's not a masterpiece, (although it's one of my fav movies, but still it's one of those films that doesn't deserve a remake.

@Teabag
LOL! you got a point though.

@P862010

Hayter's draft had a contemporary setting with wars in the Middle East. Alex Tse was hired to rewrite it with the original 80s setting.

Interesting, but I don't see Cooper in this role. He's a good actor, but would be greatly miscasted.

Alex tse edited hayders original script (which was praised by moore himself). alex tse did not write the watchmen script, he came in and edited it which was already written by hayder

The prospects of a new Crow movie didn't interest me for a second. But at least now it has a chance of being good with the WATCHMEN writer- even though, Good writing won't account for the production and directing. But at least it's a better start than merely mentioning a Crow reboot.

Joseph Gordon Levitt? Shut the front door! He doesn't have one athletic bone in his boyish frame. Plus, he looks like he has Down Syndrome (no offense... just sayin). He's another Edward Furlong.

The only reason they're throwing big names out there (Marky-Mark, Cooper) is because they think they need to in order to sell it. They don't. You have to go with a no name actor for the lead who actually has the ability to throw a punch with authority while making us believe they have a chance, instead of having to resort to giving them the benefit of the doubt.
