The Flash had its world premiere at CinemaCon during the week, and while the initial reactions weren't as overwhelmingly positive as many were expecting after the movie was touted as the second coming of superhero cinema by the studio, those in attendance did seem to enjoy the Scarlet Speedster's first solo big-screen outing overall.
Despite their recent controversies, star Ezra Miller came in for a lot of praise for his performance, but will they remain on board as the DCU's Fastest Man Alive?
The actor did release a statement taking responsibility for their actions while promising to get the help they need, but not everyone is buying it, and for many, Miller crossed a few too many lines to earn a second chance.
DC Studios co-head James Gunn was asked about Miller's future in the role during a recent interview, and gave the predictable "we'll have to see what happens" response.
You can't really blame Gunn for not wanting to get into this here, as both he and Peter Safran find themselves in a very difficult position. At the end of the day, if Miller returns from his stint in therapy pledging to do better - and The Flash is a big enough hit - they will most likely stay put... even if that decision results in a lot of backlash.
What do you guys make of this situation? Would you be okay with Miller sticking around as The Flash going forward? You can take another look at the new trailer below.
"Directed by Andy Muschietti, The Flash features Barry Allen traveling back in time in order to change events of the past. But when his attempt to save his family inadvertently alters the future, Barry becomes trapped in a reality in which General Zod has returned, threatening annihilation, and there are no Super Heroes to help. That is, unless Barry can coax a very different Batman out of retirement and rescue an imprisoned Kryptonian…albeit not the one he’s looking for.
Ultimately, to save the world that he is in and return to the future that he knows, Barry’s only hope is to race for his life. But will making the ultimate sacrifice be enough to reset the universe?"
The Flash is produced by Barbara Muschietti and Michael Disco, with a screenplay by Christina Hodson, an a screen story by John Francis Daley & Jonathan Goldstein and Joby Harold, based on characters from DC. Warner Bros. Pictures presents a Double Dream/a Disco Factory production of an Andy Muschietti film.
The Flash will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures and is set to open in theaters in North America on June 16, 2023 and internationally beginning 14 June 2023.
