The Hollywood Reporter has learned that 2x Goya Award-winning actress Maribel Verdu (Pan's Labyrinth; Y Tu Mama Tambien) has joined the cast of Andy Muschietti's The Flash as Nora Allen, the mother of Ezra Miller's titular Scarlet Speedster.
However, while that casting was a long time coming, there's some bad news, too, as the trade is also reporting that Primetime Emmy-winner Billy Crudup (Almost Famous; Watchmen) has been forced to drop out due to a scheduling conflict with the second season of his Apple TV+ series The Morning Show. THR has since confirmed the role will be recast.
Verdu joins an all-star cast headlined by Miller and consisting of the recently confirmed Kiersey Clemons as Iris West, newcomer Sasha Calle as Kara Zor-El/Supergirl, Ben Affleck as Bruce Wayne/Batman (2016), and Michael Keaton as Bruce Wayne/Batman (1989).
Muschietti (It; It Chapter Two) is directing the upcoming DC blockbuster, with a screenplay from Christina Hodson (Bumblebee; Birds of Prey). Plot details remain locked away in the speed force, but the story is rumored to follow Barry as he travels back in time to save his mother, which has disastrous consequences and, presumably, results in the introduction of the DC multiverse.
The Flash is eyeing a spring-summer production start date and is currently set to zip into theaters on November 4, 2022.
