Prior to The Flash's release, various pieces of merchandise confirmed a monstrous version of Dark Flash would appear in the movie. Based on early leaks, the villain's role was somewhat slimmed down in the final cut, though he certainly still managed to make an impact.
It was during the closing moments of the movie that we learned Dark Flash was, in fact, the younger Barry Allen who had spent decades attempting to change his timeline's fate. Unable to save Batman and Supergirl, he created a paradox by pulling his older self into the past and stranding him there.
Ezra Miller donned a practical costume and prosthetics to play his older self, and we now have a closer look at some early concept art. In that, we get a better idea of how this original new take on the character was brought to life in the movie which limped past $100 million at the U.S. box office this week.

Worlds collide in The Flash when Barry uses his superpowers to travel back in time in order to change the events of the past. But when his attempt to save his family inadvertently alters the future, Barry becomes trapped in a reality in which General Zod has returned, threatening annihilation, and there are no Super Heroes to turn to.
That is, unless Barry can coax a very different Batman out of retirement and rescue an imprisoned Kryptonian...albeit not the one he's looking for. Ultimately, to save the world that he is in and return to the future that he knows, Barry's only hope is to race for his life. But will making the ultimate sacrifice be enough to reset the universe?
The movie stars Ezra Miller, Sasha Calle, Michael Shannon, Ron Livingston, Maribel Verdu, Kiersey Clemons, Antje Traue, and Michael Keaton.
The Flash is now playing in theaters.
