While Michael Keaton (Spider-Man: Homecoming; Spotlight) was noncommittal when asked about his Batman return last month, The Wrap has obtained official confirmation from Keaton's talent agency, ICM Partners, that the Academy Award-nominated actor will indeed reprise his role as the Dark Knight of Gotham in Andy Muschietti's The Flash

The film will mark the first time in thirty years that Keaton has donned the cape and cowl, having last appeared as the character in 1992's Batman Returns

Ezra Miller will headline the feature as the titular Scarlet Speedstar, with a supporting cast consisting of Kiersey Clemons as Iris West, newcomer Sasha Calle as Kara Zor-El/Supergirl, Maribel Verdú as Nora Allen, Ron Livingston as Henry Allen, Saoirse-Monica Jackson in an undisclosed role, Rudy Mancuso in an undisclosed role, and Ben Affleck as Bruce Wayne/Batman (2016).

Muschietti (ItIt Chapter Two) is directing the upcoming DC blockbuster, with a screenplay from Christina Hodson (BumblebeeBirds of Prey). Plot details remain locked away in the speed force, but the story is rumored to follow Barry as he travels back in time to prevent his mother's untimely demise, which has disastrous consequences for the entire DC multiverse.

Filming commenced today in the United Kingdom, and Muschietti commemorated the long-awaited moment by sharing the film's official title card.

The Flash is currently set to zip into theaters on November 4, 2022.

Keaton is easily the highlight of this for me. I love his Batman flicks, and it's exciting to see the multiverse/ Flashpoint stuff being brought up here.

@ModHaterSLADE - I agree. I do like the Flashpoint style logo they revealed earlier too.

I'm slightly bummed they changed the blue lighting tho. I know its usually yellow, I just dug the blue, and I think it would have looked sharp in Burtons Gotham for however long he's there.

Keaton’s Batman made me a Batman fan for life. Honestly I think Batman 89 is what got me into movies, can’t say I’m not excited to see him come back.

@regularmovieguy - Maybe I saw it too young because him and the Joker fighting in the dark at the end genuinely scared me. (I think I was about six years old which is definitely too young to understand what that movie was about.)

@Spock0Clock

Bro...

Batman Returns scared the shit out of me. Not sure why but Batman ‘89 never scared me like the sequel did. When Max Schrek pushes Selina out the window.... 😩

If he suits up, hope they stick to the old design

@dracula - Not the cowl though. Poor guy couldn't really turn his head with that old design. Keaton mentioned it before and if you relook at his Batman films, its easy to see what he was talking about.

@dracula - I'd be open to a redesign which HEAVILY leans into the original suits. Like practically the same suit, but minor upgrades, like maybe a cowl with a neck that can turn but keeps that iconic silhouette you can't loose. Also keep the emblem the same. Same basic armor design but maybe upgraded for mobility. From a distance he should look the same until you get up close and realize he's been super upgraded.
