Marvel’s “Thor: The Dark World” continues the big-screen adventures of Thor, the Mighty Avenger, as he battles to save Earth and all the Nine Realms from a shadowy enemy that predates the universe itself. In the aftermath of Marvel’s “Thor” and “Marvel’s The Avengers,” Thor fights to restore order across the cosmos…but an ancient race led by the vengeful Malekith returns to plunge the universe back into darkness. Faced with an enemy that even Odin and Asgard cannot withstand, Thor must embark on his most perilous and personal journey yet, one that will reunite him with Jane Foster and force him to sacrifice everything to save us all.

THOR: THE DARK WORLD was directed by Alan Taylor ("Game of Thrones") and will be coming to DVD soon. Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Anthony Hopkins, Natalie Portman, Rene Russo, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Zachary Levi, Jaimie Alexander, Ray Stevenson, Kat Dennings, Christopher Eccleston, and Idris Elba.

Marvel Studios should have had focussed more on Asgard and its inhabitants instead of Earth with their weird scientists. Can't believe they turned Selvig into such a joke of a character. Make him insane sure, but not to the point of where you crap all over him! At least make him like a mad scientist, not this buffoon you had running around for 5-10 mins (I think that's how much screen time he had)!

I think the first Thor was a better movie, but it definitely could have had been improved upon. Thor TDW had SOME redeeming qualities but overall it just wasn't as good as Thor was. Also we only have one movie left with Thor as the main guy (presuming Thor only gets a trilogy), so please Marvel Studios do him some justice and get someone that not only loves the material but can actually make a good movie out of it! It's disheartening seeing Thor getting mistreated in his movies and the MCU! Give him a massive power up, like you did with Captain America, this a hero that should be able to give Superman a tough fight.

Thor 2 was just all over the place in every regard. Whereas the first has a strong character arc, TDW just jumps from one vignette from the other and expects you to feel invested, making jokes seconds after what should feel like huge events have occurred.

Alan Taylor sucked the wonder out - probably deliberately when trying to "ground" the movie - and ultimately it simply didn't *say* anything at all.

It's really no mystery why it made a lot of noise and so little of an impression. Hopefully a third movie has a stronger core.

The only problem I had with Thor 2 was it's villians. Didn't really enjoy Malekith as a villian. His characterization and Kurse were thin. There are better Thor villians. Anyhow, the movie was good outside of that and I thought Asgard looked beautiful. I can't wait to see that location in the next film.

I'm afraid I got some bad news for those hoping for Marvel to redeem Thor in his third movie. It's not happening. I bet we won't even get a proper Thor in Avengers 2. At least, we'll always have this:

Real Thor is too stronk! Honestly I think the MCU nerfed every single hero at some point. At least they got Hulk (to an extent) and Captain America right. Iron Man, Hawkeye and Thor should get a bit of an upgrade. Mostly Thor though, that guy needs to be able to destroy the Iron Man armour like it's nothing.

Watching this on cable now. The first one is still my favorite Thor flick so far.

Great art.
No, we won't see the real Thor in Avengers 2, he always gets crapped on in the team environment. If you need heavy hitting, you got Hulk. If you need impressive fighting skills, you give those scenes to Cap. If you need firepower in the air, you give it to Ironman.
Thor can do all those things, so they always let the others who specialize in that get those moments.
But Marvel better bring it for Thor 3.

@CaptShipwreck

If you can't handle people's opinions by calling them "waste of sperm cells" there's something wrong with that picture. Thor films have not been horrible but they have made some poor choices towards how they've handled their main baddies (with the only excuse of Loki) and how they have had more major focus on characters who don't even help elevate the story.

Still cannot figure out why Marvel is so gun-shy with the Thor franchise. You can tell from the concept art from both movies that they were meant to be grand, epic movies and both heavily feel that they got the reigns pulled in on them during actual production.
Its as if they are afraid that the general audience won't "get" the Thor stories if they went full fantasy.
And yet, all we heard over the last year is how big of a risk they are taking with Guardians and letting James Gunn run wild with the project and make it as bizarre as possible with the studios backing and promoting every move they make with that one.

That is some gorgeous concept art. Pity the film itself was such a sack of shit.

@mdwilliamson24

Exactly, because there's many "Game of Thrones" fans out there as well. I'm sure a Lord of the Rings thematic Thor film wouldn't be bad at all. It's a franchise that most certainly has the ability to be grand in every way but to be honest if feels like they cut back on how powerful Thor really is. I want to see a God and less of a "fish out of water".
