Conducted with Moviezine and translated by the good folks over at Slash Film, Swedish actor Stellan Skarsgård recently discussed his reprisal as ‘Erik Selvig’ in Thor: The Dark World. Also answering whether he's been asked about reprising the role in Marvel's The Avengers sequel, Skarsgård also praises director Joss Whedon.

Thor 2 I have already begun. We have done some filming in London, and will run on in November. As for “The Avengers 2″ I have not heard anything about me to be with or not. I’m under contract, so if they want me, I have no choice. The role of “Thor 2″ is about as big as the last. New director, yes. Alan Taylor who has done some “Game of Thrones.”

[Joss Whedon] is an extremely intelligent nerd. He is an expert on all this stuff, then writes he is terribly good. That he managed to write that “Avengers” script, I was very impressed the first time I read it. Ten heroes to keep track of, and hold together the story. But the success he is having in any way. He was very pleasant to work with, but also very tired. What an incredible load of pulling in over six months.”

Exploring Thor's relationship with the Asgardian all-father Odin, as well earthbound companion Jane Foster, “Thor: The Dark World” follows the God of Thunder to The Nine Realms beyond Asgard and earth. And as his evil half-brother, Loki, returns for Asgardian justice, a new threat rises. Also rejoining Thor are his fellow Asgardians, Lady Sif, gatekeeper Heimdall and Warriors Three, as they encounter mythical Norse creatures among evildoers.

“Thor: The Dark World” stars Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Anthony Hopkins, Tom Hiddleston, Idris Elba, Christopher Eccleston, Jaimie Alexander, Zachary Levi, Tadanobu Asano, Stellan Skarsgard, Ray Stevenson, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Rene Russo, with Alice Krige & Kat Dennings. And Alan Taylor (“Game of Thrones”) takes over directorial duties from Kenneth Branagh, who helmed the first “Thor” film. From a screenplay by Don Payne and Robert Rodat, “Thor: The Dark World” is set for release on November 8, 2013.

I liked the inclusion of Selvig in Avengers. Glad his character will be back in Thor. That DOES NOT however, mean that Marvel needs to introduce him in the comics (last I checked Selvig was original to MCU. Could be wrong).

don't toy with me cipher :)

not to say i didn't like his character. Love Selvig, Love Skarsgard. but c'mon he aint even in the comics, meaning he's expendable.

although it would be cool to go the coulson/harley quinn route and bring him into the comic fold. an ex-shield scientist who needs to be brought back in to clean up a mess or something.

@ThePowerCosmic so totally agree with you. I mean this Thor movie will be great but it would also be impossible to sell to general audiences if it wasn't for the first one. Thor was a great movie, it had some amazing iconic scenes. It was in my opinion the best movie they made before The Avengers

@Marvel72 what about the scene where Thor goes to retake his hammer not realizing he has been deemed unworthy. We see him struggle with his hammer and the realization that he isn't worthy all the while Hawkeye is aiming at him and just admiring his determination, I thought it was a great scene.

and what about the scene where Thor drinks Dr.Selvig under the table ? That was hilarious. I really like Dr.Selvig, he's like the dad of these movies.

@ThePowerCosmic

Yeah, the earth parts were necessary. But doesn't mean they were good, or entertaining.

Same with Kat Dennings. They may need a character to provide humor and ground things, but Kat Dennings did an atrocious job and took away from every scene she was in.
