If a new rumor is to be believed, the Marvel Cinematic Universe will soon add a very powerful new character to its ever-expanding roster.
According to scooper Daniel Richtman (via Patreon), Marvel Studios is currently searching for an actor between the age of 30-50 to play "a conflicted and powerful villain" in the upcoming Thunderbolts movie, who he describes as being comparable to an "evil Superman."
Apparently, the studio is interested in either Ryan Gosling or Alexander Skarsgård to fill the role.
There aren't too many Marvel Comics characters who fit this description, so there's a decent chance it'll either be Sentry or Hyperion. While Sentry is often compared to the Man of Steel, we're leaning towards the latter here.
Like Supes, Marcus Milton arrived on Earth as a baby and was raised by a human before ultimately becoming a superhero - though his violent nature has also seen him portrayed in a villainous light. Hyperion's involvement would also tie into another recent rumor which claimed that the Squadron Supreme could appear.
If this proves to be accurate, it obviously indicates that the Thunderbolts will assemble to face this mysterious individual, and not to wage war on Wakanda as a previous rumor suggested.
For now, all we really know about the movie is that it will see Valentina Allegra de Fontaine (Julia Louis-Dreyfus) form a team consisting of Red Guardian (David Harbour), Ghost (Hannah John-Kamen), Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh), Bucky Barnes/The Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan), John Walker/U.S. Agent (Wyatt Russell), and Taskmaster (Olga Kurylenko).
Harrison Ford will replace the late William Hurt as Thaddeus "Thunderbolt" Ross, who may wind up transforming into the Red Hulk.
Jake Schreier (Robot and Frank, Dave) is set to direct Thunderbolts, with Black Widow scribe Eric Pearson penning the script.
