Deadline report that
Transformers: Dark of the Moon now holds the record for being 2011's top-grossing domestic film so far. The site note that
Pirates Of The Caribbean: On Stranger Tides (which recently surpassed $1 billion worldwide) actually made the majority of its money abroad.
They add that,
"I've heard from a reliable source that Michael Bay should make between $80M and $100M from Paramount's Transformers: Dark Of The Moon. And, if that's not enough to make you call Hollywood's suicide hotline, then this might be: Transformers 3 will now be the highest grossing movie of the year." So, a pretty good few weeks for Paramount AND Michael Bay then!
Unfortunately,
Green Lantern has now fallen out of the Top 10. Sitting at #7 last week, and facing off against a few new releases this Friday, it isn't too much of a surprise. However, the fact it's now taking in such a small amount just three weekends in the US doesn't bode well for the chances of a sequel. With only a 26% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, whether it will make up for this when it's released internationally come August remains to be seen.
Box Office Mojo report that it currently sits at $140,829,000 worldwide. Well under it's budget. In comparison,
Thor stayed in the top 10 for 9 weeks, and
X-Men: First Class for 5. Both are considered financially successful.
With
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part Two and
Captain America: The First Avenger on the way, how do you think they'll fare in the battle of the box office?
