As expected,
Transformers: Dark of the Moon did well on Friday, taking in $33.5 million, after making over $64 million since opening on Tuesday. With a total of over $100 million expected throughout the weekend, and $185 million predicted after the 4th of July, this is yet another huge success in the franchise, despite being a slight drop on what
Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen made back in 2009.
As
Deadline report,
"Projections are for foreign to close in on $200M through Monday for a $385 global cume in its first 7 days since sequels do better overseas than they do domestic." Either way, it seems hard to believe that Paramount won't want to start work on a fourth instalment. (especially now they'll no longer be distributing any of Marvel Studios' movies following
Captain America: The First Avenger)
Meanwhile, the critically panned
Green Lantern is still struggling, pulling in a paltry $2.2 million on its third Friday, and expected to reach only around $105 million US total after the three day 4th of July weekend. Even when you take into account that it's still not opened in many other countries (and it's takings in those it has) the latest superhero movie from Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment is still way off making a profit on its
rumored budget of $300 million. Although a specific figure has not been confirmed, and may be either slightly higher or lower when marketing is taken into account.
