This from MTV's Splash Page...

Mendes said that screenwriter John August is moving along with his first draft.

“He’s doing pretty well,” Mendes told MTV News, “He’s about halfway through. There’s a long way to go yet, but I’m very, very hopeful. I think it could be amazing.”

As for sequels...

“You have to try and get one really good and then, if you’re lucky, you can make a second or a third,” said Mendes. “You can create something that’s going to run. But I think that there’s certainly more than enough for one good movie and plenty left over.”

Though casting is still a long way off, Mendes seemed excited at the prospect of bringing the characters to life, saying the series has some “real good roles in there”.

I am kinda excited about this, its one of those that could go either way. It will be difficult to translate all of the com[lex themes in the series to film. I wonder what charcaters will be in it? Tulip, Cassidy? I wouldn't mind seein Saint of Killers in there, he could translate well. This could be an awesome movie if it was done right, but I am honestly worried.

HAWK out.

I hope they don't do the Messiah character/ storyline for the first movie

"I hope they don't do the Messiah character/ storyline for the first movie"

It's gotta be them running from his family and the Saint of Killers, then it ends with resolution against his family, and leaves the Saint of Killers as the cliffhanger, and have an "after the credits" shot hinting at the Grail, then go from there.

Solomon Kane, Conan, and Preacher... I'm gonna end up having a major movie joygasim before this is all over. Seriously, if they release any (good) news about a Sandman movie, I might die from ecstasy.

If this is done correctly it could be amazing. I just hope Colin Farrell doesnt get cast as Cassidy.

ARSEFACE RULES!!!

i actually think the Farreller could pull off Cassidy!

I have since changed my mind about a few of em, but havnt thought of any decent replacements!

I think they should just try to make the first movie Gone To Texas..even if they have to leave out bits, and maybe add in some from Until the end of the world like Falcon said

Sorry, just a firm believer in the casting of no names.

Damn i wish PREACHER went to HBO!!! It deserves more than a movie! Damn HBO! : D

Im with @ Longbowhunter @ on this, no names!!!

No names can work..and it can also be a disaster! Names are names for a reason. Id like at least a couple of semi established actors as Jesse and Cassidy.

I'm with LEEE777. HBO way to go.

I would have liked to see the HBO series too, but it was being written by Mark Stephen Johnson! So maybe its a blessing in disguise that Mendes is making this movie instead...

Might see Arseface briefly, if they put in Sheriff Root..was all that in the first or 2nd book? Although Herr Starr doesnt show up until around book 3, id say they will still make him the main villain in the movie

I'm kind of sad that they didn't move forward with the HBO series too, but then again, they were talking about James Marsden, and like Ror stated, Mark Stephen Johnson?!
I just hope this doesn't go the route of Constantine, and they turn it into another Keanu Reeves vehicle! (groan)

RORSCH @ I think that was the first book but ain't 100% sure either lol! Well im hoping for a good DC movie, but then again the last two have been friggin' Awesome!!! They dare turn this into a Constantine ugh heh!

Oh yeah, that lot that did ROME (BBC) could've done a really good PREACHER series too! Maybe even SPIKE, but hopefully this movie will be mind blasting an keep to the original source material (like the basics) and it wont bomb an we might see some just as good sequels too! ; )

HBO may have rocked it, but they tend to drop shows too quickly. I am still haunted by the fact that Carnivale didn't get that crucial third season, or Deadwood's fourth. I'd rather have a very good movie (I have faith in August and Mendes) than one season of a Mark Stephen Johnson written show that probably disappoints, gets cancelled, and gives you no sense of closure.

Man, Carnivale was a load of balls they way it finished up, they could have at least did a Christmas special!..or i guess a Halloween special would have suited that show more. Deadwood too, although i was getting a bit sick of that show, theres only so much of a western that substitutes action for a bartender saying "cocksucker" every 10 seconds you can take before you want an old fashioned gun fight!

But Carnivale. Was Jonesy dead? was Justin dead?..was Hawkins dead!! Guess wel never know...

Dude

Carnivale was a dagger. There was so much tread left on those tires, I actually read an article shortly after it was cancelled that the creators envisioned a six season story arc for the show. SIX SEASONS! That cool side story with Loades(sp?) returning from the dead in Adrian Barbobot's body? "Sophie is the Omega". Not to mention the dead or alive cliffhangers Rorschach is talkin about (dude...christmas special). Oh well. We may never have gotten Battlestar if Carnivale kept going. Like the man said...guess we'll never know.

I just started reading these not too long ago and I've only gotten through the first two so far. I don't know how they are going to make these into movies. It's gonna take some major skill to translate it onto film.

O and somebody said something about a Sandman movie. Gaiman is directed a Death: the High Cost of Living movie, so hopefully he finds out that he's a great director and then adapts Sandman.

Man, Precher movie... like I've said many times before... they better grow some balls and not be afraid of showing everything, they better not shy away from controvercy I mean that's the whole point of what Ennis was trying to do. As for storyline...I would love to see Starr as villain, however that would cut out a lot of the character development that happens in the beggining, Hell I'd love for them to make a movie of each book (although I'm positive that Custer's grandma will get cut no matter how they play it).

Rorsch @ Im sure there be a book or comic book to carry on the story of CARNIVALE, there normally is dude. But it would be nice to know what happened at the end though!

Fingers crossed @ NoobMike @ ; )
