AMC has announced that Chris Hardwick will return as the host of The Walking Dead and Fear The Walking Dead aftershow, Talking Dead.

Hardwick was recently suspended after his ex girlfriend Chloe Dykstra accused him of emotional and physical abuse in a detailed essay.

Here is the network's statement:

“Following a comprehensive assessment by AMC, working with Ivy Kagan Bierman of the firm Loeb & Loeb, who has considerable experience in this area, Chris Hardwick will return to AMC as the host of Talking Dead and Talking with Chris Hardwick. We take these matters very seriously and given the information available to us after a very careful review, including interviews with numerous individuals, we believe returning Chris to work is the appropriate step.”

The news has been met with a predictably mixed reaction. Several of Hardwick's friends, including Thor actress Jaimie Alexander, stood by him after the allegations emerged, but there are just as many that believe Dykstra and are outraged that AMC has rehired the host.

Very cool! Finally someone who didn’t have their entire career ruined by false allegations! She has been shown to have been lying from multiple angles, I’m glad hardwick is back on. It’s not that I’m happy she was proven wrong, it’s just important to not allow false claims to ruin someone. Had she been telling the truth this would be inappropriate and unacceptable but that is most definitely not the case.

Wow good on AMC anyone who actually looked into this could see that her story had huge holes in it and that she was lying through her teeth. If I was Chris I would sue here for everything she has, it's people like her that gives sexual assault victims badnames and make it hard for them to be believed. Get bent Chloe

This is good to hear. Regardless of whether or not he did what he was accused of, it was ridiculous to fire him because his accuser never mentioned him by name. I'd hate to live in a world where you can be fired over an ex implying that you might have done something sketchy.

I think they handled it perfectly, believe the allegation but verify its validity regardless of the victim's gender, fame or reputation.

@MarvelnDCLover - That's not how you handle it. You don't just believe the allegation. You accept that there is a possibility that it may be true and take fair steps. You don't just automatically believe every allegation.

Now these fair steps are iffy. You don't fire someone over unproven allegations but you can't have them in the public face while there's an investigation. We simply don't live in that world where there won't be fallout.

@storyteller - Fine "believe" might be the wrong word. But we should live in a society that accepts that the accuser could be telling the truth and if that means suspending or removing the individual from public view during the investigatory process that's up to the employer. If they are "suspended" they should definitely get paid during the interim. In this case, the accuser was found to be lying and there will consequence to that. She has been publicly admonished and I'm sure he will sue the living daylights out of her. But if you don't properly handle accusations in a way where the accuser isn't automatically made to feel like a liar or gold digger you end up in a world where the Harvey Weinsteins and Bill Cosbys can run free to abuse whomever they want for years.. oh wait we already do.

"Publically admonished" Where? AMC's statement on the findings of its investigation didn't
mention anything about the allegations being unfounded. They simply said, Chris Hardwick,
is being reinstated to his show. This is likely for the same reason Hardwick will not sue the
"living daylights" out of Dykstra. That being any such move would be evidence that accusers
are being sent a message that if they can't back up their claims, they will be destroyed by
the very men and studio systems that perpetuate and enable such behavior.

Hardwick would gain nothing monetarily and even if he sued on principle, that could be
twisted by advocates as sending the wrong message to women in the industry who
may have stronger claims then Dysktra but feel compelled to keep their mouths shut.

At least AMC suspended Hardwick and maybe they will even pay him behind the scenes
for the missed Comic-Con panels he would have hosted for them. But it appears NBC
up and fired Hardwick. (I could be wrong about that) Where does a man go to get his reputation
back?

That's the point. Dysktra timed the release of her "allegations, not allegations" (Since she
didn't appear to have the integrity to actually name Hardwick) on the eve of the Midseason
finale of Talking Dead and on the verge of SDCC.

AMC was put into a compressed time window for making a decision that would protect the studio,
send a message that such alleged behavior won't be tolerated, while hopefully giving Hardwick some
sort of presumption of innocence and the whole process, an air of being thorough and fair.

By suspending him from such high profile events as the Midseason Talking Dead and pulling him
from MCing the AMC Comic-Con panels, the studio was giving those inclined to believe everything
Dysktra said was gospel, all the evidence they needed that he must have done something.

Allegations are allegations. Always take them seriously and investigate them if you can, but remember that someone is innocent until proven guilty.

Didn’t Chloe Dykstra say that she had some damning evidence of Hardwick’s abuse? Emails, videos, voice recordings? I feel like after she called him out, either she or her boyfriend claimed to have “career-ending” dirt on Hardwick… and then nothing.

Meanwhile Hardwick’s friends, ex-girlfriends, and his current mother-in-law (imagine that) rushed to his defense. They had text messages from Chloe that made Chris look like a really good guy. They had video footage of Chloe calling him the best boyfriend ever. And pretty much everybody said “He’s the nicest guy ever. He doesn’t drink, he doesn’t smoke, he works really hard, and he cares deeply about the people in his life.

And Chloe Dysktra’s response? Crickets.
