That's right, The Walking Dead fans! Anyone who was upset to see Jesus meet his maker early in the AMC show can experience more of the actor very soon with FOX's new upcoming series, The Prodigal Son.

While Payne helped make up an ensemble cast on the massively popular zombie drama, he now has the opportunity to lead his own series. With executive producers Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter (Riverdale, The Flash) behind the wheel, it bodes well for the longevity of the new show as well.

Payne reiterated comments that he had made prior regarding his exit from The Walking Dead and the way that was handled, while also being a bit more specific about which parts he was and wasn't happy with on the AMC show.

All I care about is the story, and if the story is good, and they do it in the right way, then I don't care. And if I help to tell that story, in a cool, surprising, and shocking way, then I'm down with that, and I think they really did that with the exit. So I'm super happy actually. I loved my beginning on the show, and I loved my ending on the show. The middle was meh, but the end was really cool and I'm really, really happy with that. So, yeah, I think it was kind of a mutual thing.

Clearly, Payne enjoyed his time overall and it seems like he is ready to move on to greener pastures, so hopefully this series will work out positively for him.

Are you guys excited to see Tom Payne in a leading role for his new show? Let us know your thoughts below after you check out the following trailer for Prodigal Son.

Prodigal Son is a fresh take on a crime franchise with a provocative and outrageous lead character and a darkly comedic tone, from Emmy Award-nominated executive producers Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter (Riverdale, The Flash) and writers Chris Fedak (Deception, Chuck) and Sam Sklaver (Deception, Bored to Death). The series stars Tom Payne (The Walking Dead) as the son of a convicted serial killer (Emmy Award and Golden Globe nominee Michael Sheen (Masters of Sex, Frost/Nixon)), who has made hunting murderers his life’s work. The series also stars Bellamy Young (Scandal), Emmy Award and Golden Globe nominee Lou Diamond Phillips (Longmire, Stand and Deliver), Halston Sage (THE ORVILLE), Aurora Perrineau (The Carmichael Show), Frank Harts (The Path) and Keiko Agena (Dirty John).

Prodigal Son currently has no release date, but will air on FOX.

Looks good, too bad it's on FOX,they'll probably cancel it way too soon. At least it'll end up on Netflix.
