Marc Guggenheim Hints At Plans For The BIRDS OF PREY And SUICIDE SQUAD On ARROW

Arrow executive producer and writer Marc Guggenheim talks here about them AND the fact that they "have an idea for how to do our version of Birds of Prey" in the hit CW series.

On The Introduction Of 'Black Canary':

You'll get your first glimpse of Black Canary in the premiere. Laurel needed a bit of a makeover. Last year, as a result of her job at CNRI and her relationship with Tommy, it sometimes felt like she was in a different show. One of our main goals this year was to really bring her into the fold in a way that made her an integral part of the stories we were telling. Black Canary's appearance is going to coincide with Laurel really struggling with a great number of things. We're throwing a lot of things at Laurel this year.

On The Chances Of The 'Birds Of Prey' Being Introduced In Arrow:

We have an idea for how to do our version of Birds of Prey. When you think about it, we have a lot of pieces. It's a lot like the Suicide Squad. As we continue to populate our world with new characters and some returning people from last year, you start to go, "We're really close to that!" We saw this awesome bit of production art for a new set that we realized plays into Birds of Prey completely. Our Art Department wasn't even intending that! There's certainly a momentum towards that, but everything has to happen in due time. With respect to Birds of Prey specifically, there's an actress that we particularly need to make that piece work and we need to check on her availability.

On Whether Or Not We'll Eventually See The 'Suicide Squad':

We introduced A.R.G.U.S. in Season 1. We also introduced Deadshot (Michael Rowe). We're thinking about how to expand the Arrow's Rogues Gallery, and Bronze Tiger (Michael Jai White) felt like he really fit into our world. We took a step back and realized that we were in spitting distance of the Suicide Squad. As with all things, we always have to be really careful not to let our geek selves drive everything. It has to be at the right pace for the show. We've got some really cool ideas for how to bring Deadshot back into the show. You're going to see that around Episode 6. We're hoping to get some new viewers in Season 2, so we want to repopulate our world. The hope is that we're moving in the right direction towards the Suicide Squad. Right now, we're taking it on a person-by-person basis. We have Deadshot as the leader of the Suicide Squad. We don't have any definitive plans to bring them all together. But, as always with these things, we see what people like and don't like.

On 'Roy Harper''s Role In The Series Moving Forward:

Roy has not given up his night job of going out and looking for trouble. He actually connects with the Arrow very early on in the season, who sets him on a new mission. When we find Roy in the first episode, he's floundering a little bit. He's trying to find his way and he really gets his purpose set for him, which is exciting. He and Thea (Willa Holland) are still dating. For everybody who found themselves in a bad place after the events last season, Thea is actually in a really good place. She's running the nightclub. Roy is working as a busboy at the club and she says to him, "I control both your paycheck and your sex life." Thea has really grown up during these five months. No more Catholic School girl outfits for her.

This season is gonna be epic! They need to get rid of the chick who played Huntress though. Either recast her or kill the character off cuz she was awful.

Sounds good. Hope they take some of the idiotic soap opera drama out though.

I thought I was the only one who thought Huntress was terrible. Glad to see other people think so too.

As long as they leave New 52 Harley out of the SS I think they will be fine

WHy on Earth would anyone want this show connected to The DC Movies? I really enjoy the show, but it overflows with cheese and the CW Soap Opera . Diggle and Ollie are the only two worthy of being in The Movieverse. I say keep anything that has to do with the CW as far away from the movies as possible.

I honestly couldn't care less if they included this in the DCCU but I really just want them to just focus on getting these characters right and continuing to be an awesome show!

Yeah, don't "Worry about her work schedule.", and cut the chick who plays Huntress. Eliza Dushku isn't doing shit right now, would own it, and is a far superior of an actress.

^^ Agreed

Also, if you don't like the show..... don't post on the show's news forum! YAAY! If we all could figure this stuff out, then we could all live in peace and harmony.

But there are many DC fans, for God knows what reason, who don't want it in. Some don't even think Arrow, and the three new announced, are even in consideration. I know DC is waiting for rating to come in to make their decision. If it was connected they wouldn't have to waste a bunch of time establishing other people. It makes sense, and why the hell is Jones, and Goyer being called in to help these shows out?? If Bruce Timm was announced, would you believe more in the possibility? I'm telling you, they are waiting to make their next move. Arrow did really well for them, and I'm sorry but, so far it is turning out to be more mature than AOS. AOS is corny as hell, and the believability is soooo much less than Arrow.

I honestly didn't mind Huntress but the Birds of Prey would be great.

So Laurel is Black Canary now? I thought it was her twin or sister or something

@spandex

Apparently, no and yes lol. It's apart of Laurel's growing experience towards Black Canary. I hope it sends her towards the end of a cliff instead. Then her sister could go by the alias Dinah Drake, but I'm dreaming. Hopefully Katie gets better with her acting chops instead. If not, maybe they did find a plan B.. One can only hope.

I'm a big fan of the Birds of Prey comic.

I'm more into the Secret Six than the Suicide squad, but whatever.

Laurel was probably the weakest link in the first season but regardless it's a great show even though it had a slow start. For those of you who gave up on it early on; you are missing out. About the DCU connection it can be good and bad. The good: it's a headstart to the universe and sets up a grounded side to it. The bad: you have to keep continunity intact and deal the errors that come it with and you also have to keep the same actors...oh and if this show isn't connected, they would be wasting time developing these characters UNLESS if they are doing a multi-verse or alternative universe; they don't have to worry about any of that.
Rokyn
Rokyn - 10/8/2013, 6:37 PM
@SlaveMasterFlexXx How? Why? Explain in detail. What would you do? No Batman? Continuity? Where are your facts or is this merely an opinion without evidence to back it up?
Rokyn
Rokyn - 10/8/2013, 6:47 PM
I don't know BlackJack if SlaveMaster saids it doesn't work then it doesn't work. You will obey him and he is always right. Gosh I hate fans who say it's a bad idea and don't explain why or how but they just pull it out from where the sun doesn't shine without facts or reasons.
