KRYPTON Still In Development; New Details Revealed

KRYPTON Still In Development; New Details Revealed

It's been almost a year since we've heard anything about Syfy and Warner Horizon Television's planned Krypton TV series, but now David S. Goyer has offered a few updates.

Last we heard, Krypton had been given the green light for SyFy with David S. Goyer and Ian Goldberg (Once Upon a Time) on board as producers, and the official synopsis revealing that the show would tell the story of Kal-El's grandfather's attempts to bring peace to Superman's home planet.

That was back in December of 2014 - so what's been going on?

Collider asked Goyer about it, and he confirmed that it is indeed still in development, with an official update expected pretty soon. The EP also reveals that the story will take place 200 years before the events of Man Of Steel, and will expand upon that action-packed opening sequence on Krypton.

"Part of the fun of doing Man of Steel — and I was so insistent on setting that opening on Krypton and really seeing it, was pulling back the curtain. The first draft, the first forty pages were on Krypton, so we compressed that all down to fifteen minutes and there were a lot of ideas that I wanted to use in the film that didn’t ultimately make it into the film."

Some have taken Goyer's comments to mean the show will be in continuity with Man Of Steel, but to me it sounded like he was just using the movie's Kryptonian scenes to establish a timeline. But hey, you never know - hopefully we'll get clarification on that soon. Are you looking forward to Krypton? Sound off in the usual place.

I agree, I'll only watch it if it's tied into the DCEU. lol

Well, if you want to connect a show to a ongoing moviefranchies, the best choice is allways a prequelshow... But it being on Sy-fy is just not a good sign... The glorydays of Stargate is long gone

Sounds great, I'll most certainly tune in if so. And when they say "expand upon the opening scene" I wonder what they're referring to? Other Kryptonian members/soldiers during that event?

I am all for more comic book shows, but there is not much about this that interests me. Maybe seeing Metron, Orion, Mr. Miracle, and other New Gods characters is all that I would want to see. I mean, Krytponians don't have powers on their home world.

@Emblemmaniac, I think both GliderMan and TheRationalNerd were both following on from the interpretation suggested in the article above - that Goyer may only be using MoS as a reference to explain the timeline, not necessarily that they are in the same continuity.

Honestly, i could care less on this show since it is on Syfy. They are not where they use to be since the days of Stargate.

I have to put my foot down! they are starting to over saturate the market and I fear we will be right back to the 90's with crappy comic book movies/ tv shows cropping up everywhere and killing the genre.

@528491

If it is not in the same continuity, then why even bother bring up Man of Steel at all? If it was not, then he should say something like

The Krypton prequel series is done in simular aspect to Gotham. In this show we will follow the kryptonians, 200 years before the events of the destruction in krypton, and it will be a show that stands on it's own.

Doing like you suggest would just confuse people

Personally though I would rather it not be part of the DCEU, as it would be kind of weird having a Batman prequel that's not in continuity (Gotham) and a Superman prequel that is in continuity (Krypton) running at the same time.

Out of all the existing, planned and talked about CBTV shows this is probably the one that has the least appeal to me.

Pass. Goyer dissappointed me one too many times. Plus, too many shows already from WB/DC and it's showing in the writing.

@Superherodude1

Because it is a smarter move to connect a prequelseries to a moviefranchies then a show like Flash

No offense but who cares???? Goyer Is an awful writer anyway. That's why Terrio replaced his ass on the BVS script. Isn't this thing dead??? I heard about last year and this is the first time I'm hearing about it sincd. Sounds like a series that will always be in development...

Wesley snipes choked his ass too haha

Continuity implies that they are connected. Although Krypton and the Man of Steel saga share the same mythology they are separated by time, so they are not connected. Only until Henry Cavil's Superman, or some other person from his current time line appears on that show will it be connected with the DCEU. The same thing goes for the other shows on CW, CBS. amd Fox.

I digress. He is a good ideas man, but he is weak on his own.

@Emblemmaniac I agree. Great idea man, terrible writer; on his own. When you mix his ideas with a great writer, you get TDK TRILOGY

I feel meh about the show itself, but excited that it's connected to the DCEU. Hopefully this means DC will have more series connected to their films.

Um wait...wut?

They're planning a show based around Krypton? Suggesting that anyone has a vested interest or even passing interest in the goings-on of a doomed planet? Like somehow, if we watch, Krypton will be reborn and last longer?

So what will we be treated to next, I wonder?

The Batcave? Themyscira? Grodd's Cage?

I can't be the only one that wouldn't be remotely interested in a show about Krypton...

I´m all in, I am ready for Goyer again, He is good and knows superhero genre very well. i don´t think he burned out, I wanted Somebody else to rewrite BVS and it happened. But i want to see Goyer do other stuff, with more leeway, without ratings. just let him grant-morrison out for a while, he gave us the dark knight, which even after the dumb stupid sequel is the damn finest, best superhero movie ever made

Goyer is here again to piss in your cereal.

Stop giving him that much cred for TDK trilogy. The Nolans corrected his "like usual", obvious mistakes

Of course it would be good if based on World Of Krypton.

After all Mignola drew that series.

One of the main problems with Man of Steel was that they emphasized his Kryptonian origin, when in the larger scheme of things it's only a tiny part of his story. Jor-El had way too much to do in the story, when in fact it should have been Pa Kent who guided Clark.

So what I'm getting at is that I couldn't give a flying [frick] about this show.
RRA

So if this gets cancelled, will Goyer whine about SyFy being the "Wrong channel" for it?

You know what interests me? DC fans blame MOS' problems on David Goyer...yet they're still giddy about his involvement in other DC projects, film and TV.
