Don't Expect An Appearance From 'Green Lantern' In The CW's DC Universe

While Legends Of Tomorrow has revealed that the Justice Society Of America will be appearing in season 2 of the show, producer Marc Guggenheim has seemingly ruled out an important ring-wielding member...

When Patrick J. Adams was cast in the season finale of Legends Of Tomorrow, speculation was rampant on who the actor would be playing. The most popular rumour, given the actor's appearance, was original Green Lantern Alan Scott. When speaking to CBR about who Adams would be portraying, executive producer Marc Guggenheim was adamant that an appearance from the original Ermerald Crusader was not in the cards. “I’ll tell you right now, because I never want anyone to be disappointed, he’s not Alan Scott. I love Alan Scott. I’ve written Alan Scott in the comics. Alan Scott is also attached to the Green Lantern franchise, which DC obviously has feature plans for. In the poll of ‘who it’s going to be,’ you can cross off Alan Scott.”

Of course, Guggenheim was telling the truth, as the season finale revealed that Adams was actually the Hourman, but his comments seem to indicate that any sort of Green Lantern connection is off limits due to Warner Bros.' plans for the Green Lantern film franchise. Of course, this hasn't stopped the writers from dropping some major Green Lantern-related teases in all of the CW shows, but it seems like a full-on appearance is out of the question for the time being. Is it possible we could see Alan Scott make an appearance in the DCEU?

I don't know if we'll see Alan Scott in the DCEU. But it seems obvious, despite not being directly connected to the DCEU, the television side is being dictated boundaries by the film side. I'll never understand how this invisible wall works between TV and film. But if producers are telling fans they aren't connected then either side should be able to explore stories without interference from the other. Otherwise, you are just giving fans lip service and outright lying.

I really would like a clear, definitive explanation on why some shows can use characters and others can't.

You have Powerless clearly referencing Wonder Woman and Green Lantern.
You have a Flash TV show despite an upcoming Flash film.
You have Gotham which still has Bruce Wayne in it.
Supergirl has had Superman in it, however vaguely shown.

And yet, no GL appearances, Deadshot gets offed because of Suicide Squad, etc etc.

And yet the CW is forbidden from so many other things...there's just a lot of weird lines.

@MattBellissimo - Exactly CW is the most popular I think Geff Jons and Beranlti have been pushing them. No one cares to much about Gotham tho. I think it was easy to cross the TV and Movies but they didn't there digging a hole for themselves with 6 universes with different rules but Ya know, who cares. I'm just angry that WB can kill of anyone they want but I'm glad CW is making the best out of it.

@DjTheMarvelKid - you shouldn't say "no one cares about Gotham", it's just a stupid statement. just because you don't care about it doesn't mean that no one does. hell, I don't even like the show, but I know tons of people that do.

@MattBellissimo - Trying to understand the logic of these companies is like trying to understand the secrets of the universe, or why people still follow religion.
It all comes down to "Because an executive said so"...
Why won't Fox sell Marvel the Fantastic Four? I mean, making one lump sum has to be better than spending tons of money on a movie that doesn't make the money back right?
Why can Gotham feature all of Batmans villains, but not Batman?
Why doesn't Marvels movies recognize the TV series?

it's all because an executive said so

DC and Warner Brothers are so unsure of what to do with there DC properties that they are not using some of them such as Green Lantern to their fullest. There is a smart and clever way to use Green Lantern and it is already out there. If only they knew...

@malsemarcel - The Legends teaser trailer teased Batman and Superman. Just fun references for fans it seems, but they have to stop short of a full appearance.

@RockBottom - no they just can't do it on DCTV, DCEU wants the lanterns.

@RockBottom - Yea TV would not do them justice one bit, and really wouldn't want to see them try at this point. Not a fan of DCTV, Flash was ok but fell into the same problem Arrow did after S2, which were so good :(
