The CW has announced today that Maisie Richardson-Sellers will play Amaya Jiwe, the grandmother to Mari McCabe (Megalyn E.K.) in season two of Legends of Tomorrow. The actress made a blink and you'll miss it appearance in Star Wars: The Force Awakens (her scenes with Carrie Fisher's General Leia were cut), and is perhaps best known for recently taking on a role in the network's The Originals.
According to the official description this Vixen is, "the newest superhero to board the Waverider and join the ranks of the Legends of Tomorrow. Like her granddaughter, Mari McCabe, Amaya’s powers are derived from the mysterious Tantu Totem, which allows her to magically access the abilities of animals." The character's grandaughter stars in The CW Seed Vixen series and appeared in Arrow.
With Hawkgirl, and Captain Cold stepping down as regulars in Legends of Tomorrow, we knew that some new faces would be joining Rip Hunter's team when the show returns in the Fall. This is an interesting direction to take Vixen in though, and it should be fun to see what Sellers brings to the role.
