The newest addition to the DC Extended Universe is now available to stream via HBO Max. Peacemaker is a spinoff from James Gunn's The Suicide Squad (which debuted back in August of last year and is also available to stream via HBO Max), and serves as a continuation of the story of John Cena's Christopher Smith, A.K.A. Peacemaker, following the events of the film.

Though only the first three episodes of Peacemaker are available to stream, many critics have seen the first seven installments, and a consensus has now been reached: Peacemaker is a hit.

Rotten Tomatoes has collated forty-three reviews from professional critics and calculated that 93% of them are positive, which makes the Peacemaker series "certified fresh" by the site's metric. The series has also earned a positive score from audiences (86%).

"John Cena's still in solid form as Peacemaker, leading a bloody good time that gives writer-director James Gunn full permission to let his freak flag fly," reads the critics' consensus.

Peacemaker's 93% Tomatometer score puts it in joint first place, tied with 2017's Wonder Woman, as the highest-rated entry in the DC Extended Universe to date. The series has even surpassed the Tomatometer score of The Suicide Squad (90%). Here's hoping the remaining five episodes gain as much acclaim.

Two of the positive reviews taken into account by Rotten Tomatoes hail from ComicBookMovie.com. You can check out Josh Wilding's four-and-a-half star review and Mark Cassidy's four-star review here.

@BlackBeltJones - I mean, I hate pointless race swapping, but if it'd get Ray fisher raging then I'm all in.

@Origame - Yeah, so much fun to hate on the actor who got robbed of a life-changing role then torpedoed his own career to expose abusive behavior by one of the top directors in Hollywood.

@SerKurtWagner - Ray Fisher didn’t get robbed. He threw it all away, not for speaking up, but by how he handled himself.

@SerKurtWagner - I still don't know what whedon did that was so bad I should hate him now?
JDL
JDL - 1/14/2022, 2:06 AM
@TocharianMonk - Evidently he was not nice to some of the actors as regards the changes being made to JL and their need to perform as directed. Allegedly threats were made of the sort 'you'll never work in this town again' to Gal Gadot for one. It is unknown if the changes were all or in part dictated from Upper Halls of DCEU Powah but much of it was definitely their call. I can't speak for everyone but if I had to guess it was the threat that's bothering people.

@SerKurtWagner - 1) he wasn't robbed of his role. He threw it away because he handled the situation terribly.

2) the abusive behavior he waited months to actually tell us about (resorting to vague comments like abuse and racism). Then when he actually said what happened it was simply saying he wasn't allowed to give ideas for the story, or was told to say his character's catchphrase in a scene.

The only good thing that came from him was that it led to the Buffy actors coming forward with ACTUAL abuse, but I'm calling this a happy accident since he would have no way of knowing this and his experience paled in comparison.

@Origame - "The only good thing that came from him was that it led to the Buffy actors coming forward with ACTUAL abuse,"

Not at all the case in anything published to date. Charisma Carpenter screwed up two years of setup, at least a hundred grands worth of now unusable scripts, and delayed informing him for weeks that she was not going to be able to perform what was set up. Yeah he didn't want to work with her.

As for Michele Tractenburg she never said he did anything. What she said was that her father said words to the effect of don't be alone with him. Dad hasn't said anything afaik to the press.

Outside of these two and his ex-wife no woman afaik has ever said any
seriously derogatory regarding him. He's probably a bit of an ass and definitely a control freak but that's all I've seen evidence of.

@originalmrphil - Seriously? How, exactly, was he supposed to "handle himself"?
SerKurtWagner
SerKurtWagner - 1/14/2022, 7:11 AM
@TocharianMonk - Just the things that were publicly released goes on and on, but bad enough was one of the first things to come out, with him insisting on filming the "boob-faceplant" scene, berating & threatening Gal Gadot for refusing, then forcing her stunt double into it after she also initially refused.

@JDL - Wasn't expecting someone to come on here trying to justify the treatment of Charisma Carpenter. But I guess there's no low this site won't sink to...
SerKurtWagner
SerKurtWagner - 1/14/2022, 7:14 AM
@Origame - Oh, the horror, he didn't immediately release intimate details under contract. Clearly, he owes the world immediate answers for everything, because we're what really matter, not his personal affairs or the internal investigation. /s

Also, he was robbed of his role way before all that. Dude was hired to be the heart of the story, then got shoved to the background by Whedon, who only seems to have seen Cyborg as a prop to say "Booyah."

philinterrupted - 1/14/2022, 7:46 AM
@SerKurtWagner - @SerKurtWagner - handle himself not like a twitter troll. And to be fair to twitter trolls typically give details on what their problem is, not vague hints. Guy spent the better part of the year culling an army of SJWs hinting at huge things then let other people rehash their past struggles with whedon. I have infinity more respect for Charisma Carpenter. It’s just a shame her situation happened at a time when things didn’t get much attention. To be clear, he made no impact for that cause. He just got a lot of attention for a year.
Origame
Origame - 1/14/2022, 9:29 AM
@SerKurtWagner - 1) its one thing to not release the information asap, it's another to wait nearly a year to say anything, and when you do it's stuff like being made to say booyah.

2) no, he was reduced a role in one movie that was already a team up with more well known established characters. He was still in line for his solo movie as well as an appearance in the flash movie. Both were ruined because of his handling of this situation. Oh and he said booyah once. And hardly his only role even in the theatrical cut.

JonC - 1/14/2022, 2:05 PM
@SerKurtWagner - i gotta say the boob scene gimmick has been used in many movies... i think i even saw it in one of the peacemaker shows yesterday... i can understand her not wanting to do it... but saying it is somehow out of line is not understandable considering what else they put on film... like Gal raping someone that isn't Steve in WW84 even though he appeared as Steve to her... though she still knew he wasn't.
Rape vs Boob plant...? And we won't even talk about her costume... that she parades around in throughout the entire movie... when most other female superheroes have purposely asked for more restrained clothing from the comics books...

JDL - 1/14/2022, 4:13 PM
@SerKurtWagner - What's your problem with what he did ? Or to put it another way how should he have handled it in your opinion ?
SerKurtWagner
SerKurtWagner - 1/14/2022, 6:48 PM
@JDL - Um... First off not even try to do such a lame, sexist joke in the first place. Especially when he literally did the same thing to Natasha in AOU. Secondly, respect your cast and crew enough to listen when they say they feel something you've scripted is demeaning. Thirdly, NEVER threaten to "end someone's career," especially not over an unfunny, crass gag that your cast isn't onboard with.
SerKurtWagner
SerKurtWagner - 1/14/2022, 6:52 PM
@Origame - The solo film and his role in Flash were scrapped well before the scandal went public, in a large part stemming directly from the deep-rooted issues at WB that he was talking about.
SerKurtWagner
SerKurtWagner - 1/14/2022, 6:53 PM
@JonC - You're seriously going with "look at how she's dressed"? Seriously? In 20-*******-22?
Origame
Origame - 1/14/2022, 7:07 PM
@SerKurtWagner - factually untrue. Those were only scrapped after he went public. Here's proof. https://screenrant.com/ray-fisher-cyborg-removed-flash-movie/

Also, those deep rooted issues you're talking about are not taking his complaints about being told to say a line in a movie seriously.
JDL
JDL - 1/14/2022, 9:42 PM
@SerKurtWagner - Your reply seems to be addressing the incident with Gal Gadot. I was referring to the Charisma Carpenter case. His reported behavior with GG was definitely jack-ass level even if he was just passing along what the suits were demanding. Of course since we only have her telling of the incident we don't really have a complete picture.
SerKurtWagner
SerKurtWagner - 1/15/2022, 8:18 AM
@Origame - I guess I misremembered that. I thought he was cut after they fired the director because they didn't want the movie to address racism. Which, you know, is just another instance of the problems behind the scenes.

It is so embarrassing to me to be a fan when I see threads like this. Time to step away.

The opening credits is fantastic but that's the only thing I'm willing to see from this series. Doesn't seem like it's for me.
