Entertainment Weekly reports that The CW's Stargirl TV series has cast comedian Jim Gaffigan as the voice of Thunderbolt in the upcoming season season. The CGI character is a magical, electrical, fun-loving, wish-granting pink imp from the mysterious land of Bahdnesia.
In the comic books, Thunderbolt was trapped inside a pen for a decade before being discovered by Stargirl, and we saw Courtney Whitmore steal that from the Justice Society of America's old headquarters during the show's first season. Fans have been eagerly anticipating this mystery being addressed, especially after Pat's warnings about how dangerous the pen is.
According to the official character description for Thunderbolt, "the wishes he grants often cause more trouble than the wish-asker would ever expect. But despite his somewhat constant supernatural disasters, the Thunderbolt's heart is always in the right place, even if it is wounded by the friends he has lost throughout his long existence."
Gaffigan is best known for his work as a stand-up comic, and has received Grammy nominations for his shows. He's had a number of film and TV roles, too, though, including The Jim Gaffigan Show.
Stargirl is set to return to The CW sometime in 2021, though we don't currently have a premiere date.
