New SUPERGIRL Promo; Details On How SUPERMAN Will Be Depicted

We got a brief, blurry glimpse of Superman in the first full trailer for Supergirl so we know the character will play some kind of role in the show, but we still don't know how often we'll see him and haven't even found out which actor will play him. Well, turns out there's a reason for that!

“Our prototype is the way the president is seen on Veep,” executive producer Ali Adler tells EW. “It’s certainly [inspired by] so much of what Julia-Louis Dreyfus’ character goes through. Ultimately, this is a show about Supergirl and we really want to see it through her lens.”

For non-Veep fans, the show references the President and we see other characters interacting with him, but he's never actually shown. Guess that explains why nobody was cast as the Man Of Steel!

SUPERGIRL is an action-adventure drama based on the DC Comics character Kara Zor-El (Melissa Benoist), Superman’s (Kal-El) cousin who, after 12 years of keeping her powers a secret on Earth, decides to finally embrace her superhuman abilities and be the hero she was always meant to be. Twelve-year-old Kara escaped the doomed planet Krypton with her parents’ help at the same time as the infant Kal-El. Protected and raised on Earth by her foster family, the Danvers, Kara grew up in the shadow of her foster sister, Alex (Chyler Leigh), and learned to conceal the phenomenal powers she shares with her famous cousin in order to keep her identity a secret. Years later at 24, Kara lives in National City assisting media mogul and fierce taskmaster Cat Grant (Golden Globe Award winner Calista Flockhart), who just hired the Daily Planet’s former photographer, James Olsen (Mehcad Brooks), as her new art director. However, Kara’s days of keeping her talents a secret are over when Hank Henshaw (David Harewood), head of a super-secret agency where her sister also works, enlists her to help them protect the citizens of National City from sinister threats. Though Kara will need to find a way to manage her newfound empowerment with her very human relationships, her heart soars as she takes to the skies as Supergirl to fight crime.

I'm still unsure about this film and I hope I'll be proven wrong and it will be good. Plus if it does well hopefully CBS will then want to add other superhero shows next. A Green Lantern or Martian Manhunter show would be great if they want to deal with more aliens. If they want it more Earth based a Static show with Buckwild would be cool. If they want another female show I'd like to see one about Amethyst. I just feel like she has a lot of potential and could make for a great show.

Though the pilot wasn't that good..maybe the next episodes will be good?

I thought DC was keeping their tv and film properties ( earths ) separate. If that's the case, then casting Superman shouldn't be a problem. I can live with them referencing Supes since it ain't his show, but using Veep as an analogy is kinda weird since the lack of the President represented how useless the vp office is in the show.

Superman will be portrayed as a silhouette.

I don't get the hate for this show. Everything I've seen so far looks amazing, and Benoist looks straight ripped out of the comics in her suit.

@ Montyburns - They are, it's not so much aproblem of casting as it is how they use him. They know that as soon as he shows up, played by any actor, it will overshadow Kara and her role. So they plan on using him but not really using him. I wouldn't be surprised if it's not until the second or third season(if it lasts) that we actually see him full on.

It must be difficult for them to make references to things they clearly know nothing about. Its like they did their research 3 years ago and then said "Yeah, this will probably never change, lets just go with it."

Veep is a show that realized they couldn't keep the president around as a character and not show him. After the first season, spoiler alert, they show him. He becomes a character like any other. And there are future evolutions of that, but what that show learned is that this idea doesn't work.

Pilot was crappy. Show is doomed.

@PlasmaSnake

Good catch, I clearly was meaning show by how I brought up other ideas for TV shows. But again good eye.

Why would you bring Nigri's "five-head" into this thread? Eesh.

Lol @JediPhilosopher "young Michael Jordan" I personally thought he and Kara were the only good things about the pilot-the rest was pretty damn awful

That strategy with Supes will work only for a short amount of time, 'cause it's hard to believe that Kara doesn't get along that much with the other only kriptonian in the whole planet, let alone his cousin.

Im hoping this is not too much girly time with 5 min of action at the end of every episode… If they keep stories interesting and not get teen bopper Ill definitely watch the show. Hope its as good as the Flash.

I'm glad. There is no reason to bring Superman in in the beginning. He can watch from afar. If she needs help he can blur in and give her some assistance and blur out again. I think the focus should only be on her. He gets all the hype anyway. It's Kara's turn!

I like the way they're addressing Superman.

It's like those old religious movies that had Jesus in them, but since the movie wasn't about Jesus, you'd only see him from behind or from a distance and never his face.

I sure wouldn't mind a Star Girl show on CBS if Superb Girl is a success...
