SUPERGIRL: Kara Gets Back To Work In New Stills From Season 6, Episode 10; "Still I Rise"

The CW hasn't released a promo, but we do have a new batch of stills from next Tuesday's installment of Supergirl, which will see the Girl of Steel attempt to save a neighborhood from an evil corporation.

In a curious move, The CW (for the second week in a row) has not released a new promo for the next episode of Supergirl, but we do have nineteen new promotional stills that offer a pretty decent idea of what to expect from episode ten as we see the Girl of Steel (Melissa Benoist) getting involved in helping the community. But things take a turn for the worst when Nyxly (Peta Sergeant) shows up.

Meanwhile, we also get to see Kelly Olsen (Azie Tesfai) training, presumably getting in tip-top shape for her upcoming debut as National City's new Guardian, which is expected to happen in the David Ramsey-directed twelfth episode.

The episode will also spend some time with Nia (Nicole Maines) as she reconnects with her mother (Kate Burton) and gets tips on how to become a better superhero.

Check out new stills from episode ten, titled "Still I Rise," below:

I noticed the lack of promos and it is worrying me a bit if that is how they are going to approach each final Season of every Arrowverse show because they did the same thing with Black Lightning earlier this year.

I still got to catch up with this week's episode but I wanna leave my review of S6 so far after I recently binged it.

-----------------------------------

I am not gonna lie, for some reason I had no expectations going into the 6th and final Season of the show. Neither huge nor low, just normal or even average.

But the first 7 epiosodes have been surprisingly solid. No fillers or unrelated subplots that had nothing to do with the main plots. They kept the story streamlined and focused in getting Kara back from the Phantom Zone. Mustn't been easy to pull since Melissa Benoist was still absent due to her pregnancy leave and the pandemic.

So I liked that they used their time with the rest of the characters available to flesh out the origins and lore of the Phantoms and why they were so dangerous, something I don't think that has been explored much in the comics. The effect of their powers come close to what a Dementor would do to you but at least those don't have the ability to create more of their own alien parasite race from their hosts and victims, the most dangerous ones being the Primes. And all takes is just to get scratched by them for your soul to start getting infected and start turning into them.

Relying on make up and practical effects to bring them to life (at least the Prime Phantom that was getting stronger) made them work better instead of just creating them through CGI, that way they captured how real they looked like and the sense of danger was more legit.

Did notice how they chose a Ghostbuster tech approach in dealing with them. (Likely to avoid physicallity and keep social distancing)

I remember hearing that the CGI in S5 was not as good compared to previous Seasons but never gave it too much thought. Well I can at least say that now it looks at it's best, especially when it comes to showing the Phantom Zone, there have been some greats shots of it that combined special effects with the practical sets that they built for it. One of best ones being the final one in 6x07 once they finally get Supergirl back and are exiting from it.

Took me too long to figure out why they bothered to establish a friendship between Brainiac 5 and Lena: so that they would come to a tipping point together in which they stopped compartmentalizing their feelings in little boxes, that her advice was wrong. If that was the point behind it, I can deal with it. (Brainy stress eating about still not getting Kara back and Lex still being on the loose was funny)

Thankfully Lena is done being the way she behaved in S5 even if it means we have no choice but to just forget and roll with her new leaf turn even though she was as responsible for the things Lex tried to do with her mind control tech. Writers' darlings, seriously. But choosing to stop once and for all of playing the cat-and-mouse game with her brother is the smartest thing she's done because now he must find a way to cater to his ego. Plus taking a break to go back to her home and learn more about her mother.

The time travel episodes with Brainy and Dreamer were fun too and getting back the young cast that played Kara and Alex. Didn't even mind the younger version of Cat that showed up and the reveal that it was her who Nia's dreams were warning her about putting the timeline in danger. And just like in all time travel stories, things always end up falling in their rightful place to match the present.

They've been doing more stuff with her powers lately and how she's still upset she couldn't save her mother and have her teach her more. It's gonna end up going somewhere in the final 12 eps.

Finally, Zor-El was a nice addition to the Phantom Zone episodes to acompany Kara and not make her feel so aloned and defeated. Wished he had been introduced earlier or that there were flashbacks about him years ago but re-introducing him here was right timing. His intentions to fix the world's ocean problem backfired but he owned up in helping instead of going the typical cliché route of the stubborn scientist that refuses to own their mistakes. *coughLenacough* I hope that he returns for the final episodes, at least he is now with Kara's mom in Argo City.

And seems that Nyxly is the final villain. Taking on a 5th dimensional being/imp that isn't using their powers to toy around like Mxyzptlk does could be a good send off for a challenge.

But Kara has to deal with the trauma that she sustained in the Phantom Zone as well.

This show has become painfully bad.

Kinda feel bad it's ending. Don't get me wrong, it's become a dumpster fire, but Benoist was really passionate in the role. And did a pretty solid job with the material she was given.

On top of that, yeah the arrowverse is just crashing and burning now. No more supergirl, black lightning peaked, flash lost half it's cast while the other half is trying to get out, legends keeps losing major players in their roster, and batwoman exists. Maybe, maybe Oliver didn't save this universe.

I’m really enjoying the final season of Supergirl. Melissa has given her heart to the series and it’s great it will have a two hour series final in November.
