SUPERGIRL Star Melissa Benoist Addresses EP Andrew Kreisberg's Firing After Sexual Harassment Claims

Following the firing of Supergirl executive producer Andrew Kreisberg amidst numerous accusations of sexual misconduct, the Girl of Steel herself - Melissa Benoist - has now weighed in on the matter.

During the Television Critics Association winter press tour yesterday, Supergirl star Melissa Benoist weighed in on the allegations of sexual harassment against the now fired executive producer Andrew Kreisberg. He served in the same role on Arrow, The Flash, and Legends of Tomorrow, and fifteen women and four men have accused him of various forms of sexual misconduct (including physical).

"That was a major disappointment, and the irony was not lost on me. I have to say that the way our show has recovered as a cast and a crew together, we have an atmosphere on set now that I’m extremely proud of and there are a lot of amazing men that work on our show, and we have a lot of amazing women that are in powerful positions on our show as well — now one of our co-showrunners is a female, [Jessica Queller], and the executive producer Sarah Schechter. We’re all in the fight for equality and for a safer atmosphere in the working space."

Asked how she now believes the business can improve following this and what sometimes feels like an endless wave of accusations against high profile actors, producers, writers, and directors, the actress chose her words carefully and delivered a response which was definitely worthy of the Girl of Steel.

"I think it’s a matter of empathy, and it’s a matter of listening to each other and maybe as standing in each other’s shoes for a day across genders, and across sexualities, across any platforms. I just think it’s a matter of listening to each other. It’s hard to talk about something when you’re still so in the thick of it, when you’re still so engulfed by sorting out the confusion, but I have a lot of hope. I think that people are better than the way things have been."

Supergirl returned to The CW yesterday but will go on hiatus in a few weeks when Legends of Tomorrow takes its place (a decision which has not sat well with fans). What do you guys think of Benoist's comments? Be sure to let us know your thoughts in the usual place and stay tuned for more.

Some people are just grimy as [frick]. You really think tormenting and sexually harassing a woman is the way to go? I can't wrap my head around it. I can't understand it especially when these guys have mothers, sisters, nieces, daughters etc.

If he repeatedly and forcefully puts his hands on you without your permission, that is a self-defense situation. Whoop his ass if you can!

@BlackBeltJones - agreed , worse part is this isn't something done once or randomly . most likely done previously to others and they finally picked someone who wasn't with the sh**s

@knocturnalzen10 - its predatory behavior. These guys get a little power and run wild with it.

What's sick is that they find some sort of satisfaction in it. That's [frick]ed up.

I wonder how much the Arrowverse is going to be changed creatively? Kreisberg has been there since the beginning. As the co-creator of Arrow, Flash, Supergirl and Legends, he (along with Berlanti) has been the creative force behind the entire universe. Hell, until he was fired, he was the showrunner/co-showrunner of every season of Flash and Supergirl.

That's something to think about. Everything we've seen from those shows and characters come from his mind. Look at what happened with Arrow. When Kreisberg left after season 2 to run The Flash, that show went downhill fast and took 2 seasons to recover.

The guy's clearly an A-hole and it's best he's gone, but he really developed a great universe. I really hope the other showrunners and creatives can maintain things and even make it better.

I really have to laugh when Melissa talks about "empathy"
This is a person who left her husband to run off with co star Mon El.
Celebrities really have no sense of themselves at all

@motleyklopp - Oh yes, she's evil because she broke up with someone and then had a relationship with someone else. Celebrities really are terrible because that's what they do.

@Boyle360 - I never said she was evil ,that's your word- Just because I'm a fan of the show,it doesn't mean I can't see hypocrisy
from it's main star.
Empathy is essentially "treat others as you wish to be treated " after all !

@motleyklopp - I get what you're saying. While every situation is different they sure like preach from their ivory towers and always fail to see the hypocrisy in their statements and actions.

@motleyklopp - Yeah, that’s not really what empathy is.

For the record, she didn’t do porn. Her pictures illegally leaked online with a guy that would be her husband at the time or soon to be husband.

No, if you film it and have it for personal reasons and it’s stolen, it’s not porn. If you get paid for it and then sell it, then it’s porn. Even if it was, it would be consensual, what Kreisberg did wasn’t consensual. Not sure how you could compare the two.
