The WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes pushed the show's start date back, but Superman & Lois star Elizabeth Tulloch has now confirmed that production is underway on the highly anticipated fourth and final season.

The actress shared a series of photos of her return as Lois Lane and shared a few shots of Clark Kent actor Tyler Hoechlin along with Michael Bishop (Jonathan Kent), and Alex Garfin (Jordan Kent).

Tulloch also shared a first look at the script for Superman & Lois' third episode, "Always My Hero." Interestingly, that's being directed by Grimm star David Giuntoli. He's married to the Lois Lane actress and has voiced Batman in animated movies like Batman: Soul of the Dragon and Batman: The Doom That Came to Gotham.

You can read our interview with the actor about the latter project here.

With DC Studios and James Gunn rebooting the DCU, most fans had expected Superman & Lois to be cancelled after season 3. Instead, we're getting one final batch of episodes for what looks to be the end of an era for DC storytelling on The CW after The Flash concluded last year.

While this series isn't set in the Arrowverse, that is where Superman and Lois first debuted (in the Supergirl TV series). Crisis on Infinite Earths left them in their own reality with two teenage sons, and certain characters - Lex Luthor, for example - recast. That decision has received a mixed response from fans as it closed the door on crossovers and led to confusion when Arrow's Diggle showed up, for example.

Last year, Superman & Lois executive producers and co-showrunners Todd Helbing and Brent Fletcher said this about the show's ending:

"While we're sad to say goodbye to Superman & Lois at the end of Season Four, we're grateful for the time we've had with our amazing cast, crew, VFX teams, editors, musical geniuses, and writers. Since the day this show was first discussed, it was about family. And that's what was created on and off screen."

"We'd like to thank our partners at Berlanti Productions, DC, WB and The CW for their endless support and enthusiasm during this journey...and give a very special thank you to all the fans for tuning in. We're thrilled about what we have in store in our final season, and can't wait for everyone to watch as Superman, Lois and all our heroes face off against the biggest threat in the show's history-Lex Luthor."

Superman & Lois will return to The CW later this year. You can check out Tulloch's Instagram post below.
