First! j/k

This was great. Really liked what they did with the mask. Looks like wine spilling on fabric.

redrum010 - 2/6/2009, 5:37 PM
I'm wondering if they at least briefly mention where the mask came from. It used to be part of a dress belonging Kitty Genovese.

yeah, I agree Tucson, I really like the look of it. And the video was cool, Interesting how they did it all

just me or did Rorschach hit the kid in the face instead of putting a cigarette out in his eye?
imandrew
imandrew - 2/6/2009, 6:38 PM
I think so xaosjerk, Unfortunately it looks like they may have toned down Rorschachs youth fight scene. Another thing that is bothering me is how short Rorschach is, in the book he is as tall or just slightly shorter than Nite Owl and he is the same height as Jacobi but in all of these video journals he seems much shorter than he should be.
CrookedJaw
CrookedJaw - 2/6/2009, 6:50 PM
yeah, but that's just Hayley...He's a short guy. Through the use of camera angles and different shots, he'll look about the same probably...the beauty of film :)
Joker1zero
Joker1zero - 2/6/2009, 7:12 PM
He's pretty badass for a fugly ginger...hell, he's the most badass motherf**ker around. He ranks up there wolverine and batman
IonParallax
IonParallax - 2/6/2009, 7:25 PM
He's cool, but Joker, he ain't THAT cool. I'm sorry but they've got WAY too much history for a character like Rorschach to even compete with. Seriously.

Yea, he's nuts and he's a badass, but he surely ain't Batman or Wolverine status.

Good vid, I dug it.

All right, fair enough...he's still a badass ginger
ElBeaster

He's not as bad ass because Batman and Wolverine have long running series. Rorschach was only in one story. If he had his own series, in time, I'm sure he'd be just as badass.

Rorschach is a real short dude..he wears elevator shoes in the comic
CRUSH

wtf? elevator shoes? seriously man? haha, I can't tell if you're being serious or f***ing with us
regularguy
regularguy - 2/6/2009, 11:40 PM
In the comic, Rorshach is only listed at 5'6" (check chapt. 6). That's pretty short.
SGA
SGA - 2/7/2009, 2:01 AM
so i guess rorschach01 is telling the truth.

but just because Rorshach didn't get his own series and as long running as Batman and Wolverine, that doesn't mean he isn't as bad ass.
xaosjerk
xaosjerk - 2/7/2009, 4:15 AM
I always imagined Rorschach's mask to be more of a silky material like a woman's negligee seeing as how it was originally gonna be a woman's dress, and just from the way it was always drawn
blazebyrne
blazebyrne - 2/7/2009, 7:03 AM
What the [frick]? Just because Rorschach was only in one book, he's not as badass as Wolvie and Bats? Jimi Hendrix only released three albums does that mean he's not as good as Westlife? Not comparing Bats or Wolvie to Westlife but my longevity point still stands.

P.S. Loved the video, can't wait
MarkCassidy
MarkCassidy - 2/7/2009, 7:56 AM
haha, no im serious. When hes captured by the cops they discover that he wears them for extra height. As far as comparing him to Bats or Wolvie, id have to say Rorschach is the badassessed! But he doesnt have nearly as much history and is much more unsympathetic.
Betty
Betty - 2/7/2009, 9:23 AM
First, the movie will spawn spin offs. comicbook movies always do, it is part of their marketing strategy even if a movie was never a comicbook. so there probably be more to all the character's stories.

Second, blaze b comparing jimi hendrix to westlife! hilarious. good one!
ElBeaster
ElBeaster - 2/7/2009, 9:45 AM
I just think that Batman and Wolverine have been around longer and have evolved and gone through tons of character development over time. This probably just makes it so they have more fans that would think they're more badass. Rorschach could be equally badass or more badass; idk.
Killian
Killian - 2/7/2009, 9:52 AM
lol evil betty! Love that movie. For me the most important part of Rorschach is the scenes in jail. As long as they don't screw that up he'll be badass.
xaosjerk
xaosjerk - 2/7/2009, 11:20 AM
They can't do spin offs of watchmen come now my friend there is only 1 watchmen story and once it's over it's over(besides Rorschach bites the dust, cant really have him come back well prequels I guess) In the .001% possibility category I could see this being a phenomenal box office success and have the studios beg Snyder to direct live action black freighter and all the missing scenes that were cut and make a super extended version of the movie (maybe a trilogy or duology at that point) but as my probability indicated I think this is highly unlikely

Oh and LESS THAN ONE MONTH TILL WATCHGEDDON!!!!! :)
xaosjerk
xaosjerk - 2/7/2009, 11:22 AM
I think what this does to comic movies more than anything is the same thing it did to comics, make them more realistic and intelligent which = good for the future of comic movies.
blacksword7
blacksword7 - 2/7/2009, 11:28 AM
Rorschach's mask is NOT any type of fabric. it was dual layered latex, that was what the material was made from and there was a black viscous fluid that ran between the latex layers. the effect was similar to oil flowing through water, the bonds of the fluid are constantly separating and re-connecting. you guys are right about the youth fight scene, they also made it take place in the winter with a snow ball instead of the summer with an ice cream cone. i liked seeing the bit where his mother smacks him, very emotionally wrenching.
MarkCassidy
MarkCassidy - 2/7/2009, 11:58 AM
you see him raise that meat cleaver in the clip? bye bye pooch!

You know they toned down the youth-fight scene because of the abomination that is the MPAA. I'm sure if the director had a choice, he'd leave it as is. (Still don't know how I feel about the non-squid ending though).
Either way I can't wait. The comparison shots are phenomenal, and hopefully all the casting is as well.

Because this character is behind a mask a majority of the novel, I don't think he would be that challenging except for the voice. He isn't a very mobile character and should be relatively easy to portray since he is unaffected by almost everything. The scenes that will possibly break Rorschach is when he is pretending to be Kovacs during the therapy sessions with the psychiatrist. In my opinion, all the scenes when no one is "super" will be key and more vital than when they are wearing their masks and costumes. I have not seen any proof that those will be done well. Also, I have not seen any proof that this movie will survive without a squid.
ElBeaster
ElBeaster - 2/7/2009, 5:19 PM
I actually hope that this movie flops. Snyder has said that the studio has the rights to Watchmen and can do whatever they want with it. So, even though Snyder won't return to direct, they may make a sequel WHICH WOULD SUCK! So heres to hoping that this movie is awesome, but doesn't make the studio too much money.
IonParallax
IonParallax - 2/7/2009, 7:06 PM
Yea, just to reitterate, I don't think Rorschach isn't a badass, because he is. But Wolverine OR Batman would totally beat the shit out of him. He's got nothing on them whatsoever. Oh yea, just as a throw-in, DARK CLAW would REALLY beat the snot out of him. Because he's just superbadass.

If you're not familiar with Darkclaw, check out Amalgam comics, back in 96 when there was the awesome cross-comic series "Marvel vs DC" that spawned Amalgam Comics and they had charatcers like Iron Lantern (Iron Man/Green Lantern) Lobo the Duck (Lobo.Howard the Duck) Amazon (Storm/Wonder Woman) and of course Darkclaw (Batman/Wolverine) I loved that stuff, it was great.

Also, this movie is going to rock, squid or no.
Did not having Mandarin in Iron Man ruin it? No.
Did not having The Joker in Batman Begins ruin it? No. Did not having Jigsaw in The Punisher ruin it? No.
Get the point? I think we do. The likelyhood that not having that god forsaken 5th dimensional whatever-opod in the movie ISN'T going to ruin it, especially for me. Thanks.
xaosjerk
xaosjerk - 2/8/2009, 4:21 AM
Some people on these forums just have no perspective to what Snyder has done with this movie, if you applied the same standard to superman, x-men, iron man, spider man the hulk, ghost rider, punisher any of these movies you'd be 1000x more annoyed at those than this.

You should not hope this movie flops. If watchmen flops studios will say to themselves, "OK right, like I thought the public doesn't want smart comic movies, let's get the guy who did batman forevor to do the new Iron man movie."
