AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D.: Edward James Olmos Gives Some Cryptic Details On His Character

All we know so far about Battlestar Galactica veteran Edward James Olmos' Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. character is that his name is Robert Gonzales. While that doesn't sound like an established Marvel persona, with this show you just never know! Olmos gives a few interesting hints to CBR...

Every time a new cast member signs up to Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D, fans speculate on whether they'll turn out to be a character we know from the Marvel Comics universe or not. You can't really blame them; after all Mike Peterson became Deathlok, "the Doctor" became Mister Hyde, and Skye turned out to be his daughter, Quake -- and that may just be the tip of the iceberg. We recently found out that fan-favourite actor Edward James Olmos (Battlestar Galactica, Blade Runner, Dexter) is the latest addition to the cast, playing someone named Robert Gonzalez. Will he turn out to be an established Marvel character? Olmos didn't comment on that during his interview with CBR but he definitely suggested there's a lot more to this mysterious fellow than we're currently aware.

Apparently his casting came "out of the blue", but already being a big Marvel fan he was very happy he got the call. Olmos also says that it'll be a "short arc. It's only about between three to five/six shows", and most cryptically, of Gonzalez: "Well, I'll just put it to you this way: When he smiles, the whole world smiles with him." he won't elaborate any further, but that should be enough for some of you Marvel nuts to run with! So does that mean he will show up in Jessica Jones Netflix Series and that's how it will connect to the MCU.! That'll be neat.!

I could totally see them making him more "real world like" without the purple skin, maybe like this

Give h purple eyes and let him work his magic.

Hmm... definitely not the Purple Man, but I could see him as The Controller.

They are not going to cast an old man to play sexual foil/abuser to Jessica Jones. They'd want a younger, more attractive actor for that role.

@GliderMan I'd rather see the Mandarin on the Netflix shows, either as a big bad in Defenders or a villain in Iron Fist.

If the cryptic quote suggests he has mind controlling powers, I'd say maybe TTHE RINGMASTER in a creepy updated Circus of Crime.

If, on the other hand, he is simply a guy with a lot of political or financial power, he could be the head of Roxxon, the head of Zodiak, or the head of the Maggia.

Given that this show uses a lot of Iron Man villains, (Blizzard, Whiplash), I think Controller is a strong possibility.
